This sounds like the plot to a English version of 12 angry men!

I’ve asked enough times, I’ve even contacted Tapatalk - there doesn’t seem to be any appetite from anyone to try and get it fixed.

I have to write ant posts with numbers writing the full words out just in case

This is not unusual. I was on the jury for a GBH case where a guy was accused of stabbing two people. We all had to queue to get into the court via the metal detector machines and, on more than one occasion mid-trial I was stood immediately behind him in the queue when returning from lunch.

It seemed very odd at the time, but it's also logical if you assume that there's a presumption of innocence until proven otherwise, so we're all treated the same during the trial.

It wouldn't apply to anyone remanded in custody ahead of the trial, who would remain remanded into the cells when court wasn't in session.

I don't think she will get a retrial.

I'm not using Tapatalk, I'm using Chrome on Android. Is the problem when people are posting using Tapatalk?

From my point of view, everything is fine using Tapatalk but mostly wappy when I use the BBS forum app… particularly when I mention numbers or post a direct quote

We have reached the point in my opinion that a retrial is inevitable. There is absolutely no way as far as I can see that everybody involved can sit back and rest easy thinking that her guilt is "beyond reasonable doubt". It just isn't. There seems, from the outside looking in, that there is a viable chance that the poor babies deaths were simply down to poor standards of clinical care at the hospital.

The evidence does seem to be stacking up against the original conviction. It’s also a worry how many other babies died in the same hospital under similar circumstances when she hadn’t been on shift and hadn’t treated them. That seems an unlikely coincidence. So it may be that her conviction is found to be unsafe.

That’s the start of more issues though. It is difficult to see how she gets a fair retrial now.

Everybody knows who she is, they’ve all seen her face, they know her name. They know bits about the case.

No jury could be seen to be completely unbiased. They’d all be starting (not officially, but human nature is what it is), from a starting point of guilty and would need it proving otherwise. Though that might not even need to be done.

If it goes to appeal, that’s one thing. If the conviction is quashed as unsafe, and it goes to retrial, there is a suspicion that the crown might withdraw when faced with all the medical evidence from multiple, credible people that contradicts the medical evidence used in the trial which was key to the conviction. All the evidence against her was circumstantial, no smoking gun, and was made using assumptions proven only by medical evidence that said there wasn’t another explanation. It seems that might not be the case.

Plus whoever represented her in the original trial need striking off if they didn’t bother to check the medical evidence they were fighting against could be argued against by other experts. Brain dead. Can’t get my head around that part at all.

It’s really strange. I kept walking past or near relatives / friends of who was on trial when we on our lunch break in random shops & streets in Sheffield.
