I've just been looking at the League Table and our goal scoring is comparable with our rivals. Multi million pounds spending Birmingham have scored 5 more than us. The biggest team other than S6 in the whole football world Wrexham have scored 2 more than us. Stockport 3 more than us,Huddersfield level scoring with us,Orient 1 less than us,Charlton 5 less than us and Reading and Bolton have scored 2 more than us each. The only exception is Wycombe who've blasted goals in right left and center and have scored far more than anybody, I don't know what I'm trying to prove other than maybe our defence needs addressing more than breaking the bank on a proven scorer which are hard to come by.Our rivals have spent about 50 million pounds but there's a cigarette paper between the amount of goals scored.
Like said we can't defend, we can't do the basics stopping crosses, closing men down, not letting the ball bounce. Work on those and we might have a chance. I mean we kept a clean sheet against Burton but there *****.
MDG is o.k Pines is too cumbersome. Earl is better but can't do it by himself. Roberts is past it. Shepherd playing well at Bradford. Didn't do too much wrong. Out on loan. Lopata looked a decent player to me. Harshly treated. Lofthouse is better than Gent. Out on loan. O'Keefe. I don't get the love in. He's got six assists but done far more wrong in attack and defence. Looks a liability to me in attack. Too slow getting back. Gent is too light weight. Heart of a pea. It's clear to me we needed two strikers and a centre back.
Yes it's a problem, we have the highest XG in League 1, a goals scored lower than XG and a conversion rate of 10th.
With a better forward we might be able to keep teams honest. Teams rightly think they can sit back and maybe grab a goal from an inevitable mistake. If we had someone capable of converting the chances we make they wouldn't get away with it. The issue is that decent forwards are in short supply. As I mentioned elsewhere, our rivals have signed Jordan Rhodes (0 goals in 21 games) and Sam Cosgrove (useless).
It's using stats to demonstrate what we can all see watching the games: we're not taking enough of the chances we're creating, because our forwards aren't very good goalscorers. Which is why we need/needed at least one that is.
Imagine where we'd be if we had converted our XG? Last season we had an XG of 1.42 but scored at 1.79 goals per game V this season of 1.52 XG scoring at 1.34 The stats clearly show we are creating slightly more chances this season but scoring 25.13% less of those chances per game SiGn A StrIkEr
Still can’t get my head around why we didn’t bring anyone else in. It’s like even the owners have given up on promotion. How the hell are they going to promote ST renewals this time?
I'm not sure we are creating more chances, I think we are, especially in certain games, but we are creating better chances thats for sure, Watters at Bristol rovers always comes to mind mate
The stats show we are creating more chances than last season, there's no I'm not sure about it mate, it's in black and white. We've also the 2nd highest shots on target in the division. 1st XG 2nd Shots on target 10th Conversation rate. Not difficult to see the problem
We made enough chances against Burton to win several games but at the same time we had several comical ****-ups at the back and could easily have lost. I think defence would be the number one priority for me.
I haven't seen other stats, but initially the only stat you mentioned was Xg. Xg doesn't show you how many shots you have, it shows you the quality of chances you are creating. A penalty for instance is 0.76 xg.
