Not alot to go off in terms of players that have become free agents thus January, but this lad looks about the best of the list who you'd know would get a work permit based on playing previously at Sunderland and youth levels for Germany

There's only really Kemar Roofe and he hasn't played since last season.

The recruitment team and above have been beyond negligent if this is our only hope.

 

If they do go after a free agent, will they have to be a UK national as we've already using our 2 spots for overseas players?

 

That is very true. I can’t imagine Cosgrove will be doing 90 minutes for them right away.

The day after the window I was actually thinking about this. Even though the window is shut, if a player has 6 months left, could we sneakily offer a payment to a club for them to cancel the contract so we get said player on a “free”. I assume this breaks some sort of ruling though otherwise surely clubs would be doing it all the time.

 

Please don’t. Someone might read this and be tempted for a redemption arc!

Also Gyasi Zardes who has a good scoring record in the MLS and US national team.

 

Can’t imagine that standard is great right now but I liked him at Reading. It’s not a great list but he’s one that caught my eye a bit.

He's the best of a bad bunch imo. Was decent at reading before leaving and that wasn't all that long ago. It's just how much interest will he have to come back to England on far less money than he was over in China and the other clubs he's been at recently.

 

There are quite a few players out there whos contracts ended in January so I wouldn't expect fitness to be a problem.

The fact they are doing this is an admission of their negligence during the window - or a reaction to the response they’ve had since the window shut

 

Or possibly not getting a deal over the line or possibly this was the route they were taking all the time.
There are some decent players out there who've only been out of contract a month so fitness won't be an issue.

 

Realistically from that list I can only see Tyler Burey being considered. Played 10 times this season for Carlisle, so should be somewhat match fit. Probably no worse than the French kid. 53 appearances in the Championship according to that.

 

Won’t hold my breath, can never remember us signing a feee after the window has shut? Or did we sign Lita, Mido, Harewood or Scotland outside it ?
