Few quick bits for people coming over on Saturday from me: Edgeley Park is easy walking distance from Stockport town centre, but it is in the village of Edgeley which is a place in it's own right. Edgeley is pretty **** and Castle Street in particular has a reputation for being a bit of a dump. I'd generally avoid the pubs on Castle Street - particularly the Sir Robert Peel as i've seen trouble round there with away fans before - and the Pineapple, as it's filthy and full of weirdos. If you're coming on the train and want to go to the ground, come out of the station at the Edgeley side and its a 5 or so minute walk to the ground (theres an exit at each end of the underpass below the platforms). If you've got a bit of time though, head towards the town centre crossing the A6 and towards the Market square and Underbanks. Produce Hall is like a Victorian building housed version of Market Kitchen in Barnsley, theres a few decent pubs both on the square and around it (Bakers Vault, Boars Head, Good Rebel, Thread, Angel Inn) and there's two or three really good craft beer bars on the Underbank for the George Spicer's amongst you (Spinn Off, Stanleys, Cracked Actor) Its about 15 minutes walk max from town centre to the ground. Don't get accidentally buummed by a pack of rabid dogs or fall on a spike. Oh, there is some sort of fan zone by the ground now but I've not been. Think that's about it.
Chilli Masala in Edgeley is the best restaurant I’ve been to in recent years. Fantastic customer service and really good food. We’re doing post match drinks with friends from Stockport at The Blossoms and then heading for a curry at Mr Ali’s.
Chili Massala is ace, and a proper good atmosphere. Choo is a legend! Blossoms is about 5 minutes walk from my house.
That kid from honest places did the pineapple on his youtube channel( think he's from Stockport originally). That 'pub' if you can call it that looked like some scrubbers front room, type of place you wipe your feet as you come out .........sithi.
The staff were just tremendous. Found the pubs in Stockport a bit strange tbh. Blossoms is a five minute walk from my daughter’s.
Been to Stockport once and went on my own. Lovely bunch of fans and made me feel welcome. Had a few beers in a Robinson's pub near the ground. Think we drew the game 2-2.
I haven't been since I called Tony Vaughan *****, and he told me to fck off. Was warranted, always liked Tony.
All this talk of pubs ......... remember it's a 12.30ko folks. And be in the ground for 11:30 to get behind those boys in Red.
I remember a Boxing Day trip or 2 many moons ago. Think we went in a boozer called the Rifleman. Decent enough. Police were stopping vans and coaches for booze on the outskirts of Stockport but we’d only got empties by then. Also very vague memories of Friday night games against them as a kid.
Went in the Pineapple around the time we last played them, it was a dump back then, but the beer was cheap and locals were friendly.
Many years ago I was at Stockport on a Friday night and Zig a Zaga who was a well known supporter at the time looked up to the sky and said "is there an airport round here"
Daughter told me their pies were second to none. But I’ve read their site and i think they’ve changed supplier. :-(
