Now that Dave Hughes is back with Acorn I thought the Dove might become an Acorn pub. I know he's a football fan, albeit Blackpool, but Acorn did do a special brew to mark our 125th anniversary as a football club.
Can you give a gist of what it says for those of us who don't use or no longer use facebook? Thanks in advance
This seems a bit strange to me. And very sad. Huge part of the early history of BFC, and therefore, the town.
Do Acorn even have any pubs anymore? Fairly decent size brewery, but no pubs or outlets in town is bizarre.
Very sad news. 200 Years of history down the toilet. Even if another brewery came in with an offer, it would be nowhere near the money that the housing developers will be putting up. Rubbish for all involved.
Never really boozed in the Dove. I can count on one hand how many times I have been in but sad news for the local community and more importantly the historical impact that pub has had on the town for 235 years.
Not really bizarre...it takes a lot of capital or a lot of borrowing to acquire worthwhile pubs that can survive on beer sales.
It will be a sad day. Me and mates use it every home game. Cracking place. Will miss it if it all goes through.
Not sure if that would work because the Black Bull at Stairfoot was said to be a listed building, but it it’s flattened now.I remember a date plaque above the entrance saying 1777
Used to go in regularly before games in the late 80s and 90s as well as travelling to away games with them. Shameful that it’s been allowed to close to become an HMO. Big loss to the local community. Very sad….
I've been in touch with CAMRA about this and the local Barnsley Branch is well aware of the situation and mobilising to oppose the development.
If anyone has an inkling to the 'Bradford based property developer' please drop me a line. Would love to know if it is Hartley's.
