Not sure it's a good idea to remind us all what a good pair of wingbacks can do or what good recruitment looks like. Also nearly every seat in Oakwell taken and the place was rocking those were the days
Me neither. I was so too far away for a night game live on Sky and it’s not the only great match I’ve missed over the years
And still ended up losing more than we won, finished 13th, tbf to hendrie he made some decent signings
Yeah. Bad choice in hindsight but easy to see why we’d make that given the success of the previous player-manager
We should have beaten our record 9-0 score for a league match that night. Sean McClare missed 3 absolute sitters and we could easily have gone in 10-0 up at half time. Higgy also missed a penalty in the second half so we ought to have set a new record.
Great player, great bloke just struggled to transition to manager especially carrying on as player manager initially
But it just goes to show what Oakwell could be like given the right conditions the support is there but the club needs to be run a dam site better than it has been for the last two decades when managed decline as been the order of the day even under the sole ownership of the Crynes.
Footballs changed a hell of a lot in nearly 30 years to get back there we would need someone to pump a hell of a lot of money in or be incredibly well run, someone to pump money in and have a massive amount of luck along the way. I think the potential is there but build and fans will come.
We didn’t. Parachute payments didn’t exist then. Didn’t come in for another eight years after that. They were initially four years too; had they existed I sincerely doubt we’d have been relegated to league one or gone into administration.
