I thought - and could be wrong - that Germany was limited militarily after, and because of, WW2. France has had the most powerful military in Europe for most of my lifetime - and Italy has the largest army.
Fair play to the German defence minister for explicitly criticising the deluded ramblings of Vance in his earlier speech criticising European countries for countering misinformation and lies, otherwise called 'free speech' in the Trumpian dynasty. Ironic how Vance tried to position his government as paragons of virtuous democracy. Clearly the capitol riots never happened.
Hope you're right. As much as I'd like to see him gone, assassination would be the worst outcome because his followers would see him as a martyr or maybe even some sort of messiah - rather than just a very very naughty man.
there are many "might is right" folk aroiund the world They are loving Trump/Musk taking big Government down.
It was likely part of the same plan to weaken the EU making it easier for Russia to look at the likes of Estonia and Latvia.
Russia needs a weaker Europe. Brexit weakened Europe. It might not have made the second invasion of Ukraine any quicker, but it didn't hurt it.
We still stand with europe giving billions each year to Ukraine. Putin was hardly scared of our under funded, under prepared military.
According to Global Firepower they rate the UK as fifth most powerful in the world. Turkey are the next European country in seventh.
If it wasn't, why did the Russians interfere with the referendum to produce a leave vote? Oh and then interfere in our General Election of 2019 to get Johnson into no 10...
Their current rankings have UK at 6, France at 7, Turkey at 9 and Italy at 10. Both Italy and France have twice as many military personnel as we have. But the original comment was about the EU - where France and Italy are the most powerful militaries.
Apparently a Danish guy has started a petition to get his government to offer Trump money to purchase California. I think I might start one to get the UK government to ask for the return of the original 13 colonies. They'd be better off with us.
I suppose the one positive from this thread is that there's a dearth of the "I don't support Trump, but" posts. Maybe the penny is dropping with them.
