Duff was the man to take us to bigger things and we let him go. I know Cardiff were a division above, but we should have made it impossible for him to leave. This is not Clarke’s fault, but he’s just not as good. I’ve been saying season on season that the problem is continuity and we just don’t have that. Forget about players and their weaknesses, the man in charge is what it’s all about
Get ready for some sarcastic comment about it being Swansea and not Cardiff he went to… or make that the first one
If we made it impossible to leave though when we first signed him and he turned out to be *****, we'd be complaining to high heaven.
I'm not sure how you keep someone in a job that they don't want to be in. He could simply resign. Just like anyone can if they don't want to stay with their employer.
Swansea. And we couldn't have kept him. As soon as we didn't go up and he got a Championship job offer it was nailed on her was going.
And as we've discussed on here, Duff made it clear that these owners sort of did all they could, to try and keep him here. We'll never know what that was of course, but he wasn't going to turn Swanny down was he.
Exactly, mate. Dont get people sometimes. If we didn't put in a clause, he might never have come. If we put in a huge clause and was ****, we'd have to pay him handsomely to sack him off to pay up his contract. We can't force people to stay. Cheltenham fans would be saying the same things about him joining us.
As it ever occured to you that some people (myself included) just like to have a moan or a whinge? Easy to vent about all things bad on social media. I'll let you in on something I've noticed first hand, this season in particular. The feeling online on this message board or social media in general doesn't reflect the mood in the town and the stands. Been five times this season and as bad as it's been the fans I've been around have sucked things up and accepted it. Not in the apathetic sense either. One of lads I attend with thinks it's crap but he goes home and away. When he has his drink at halftime he assesses the first half and if it's crap. He rings/ txts his partner to pick him up and go shopping and has a takeaway. Doesn't ruin his day in the slightest. Back to Duff. I'd have sacked him after Wembley so the club made on him in my opinion.
Not even sure why we went for Clarke in all honesty- not an up and coming head coach - as much success as failure and only seems to have one way of playing and if that fails we lose and doesn’t seem to be able to get a team to run through walls for him exactly despite all his bluster.
We've done it as well though, poaching managers from other 'smaller' or lower league clubs. When we took Lee Johnson from Oldham, and then Bristol City took him from us. And this weekends opponents Rotherham, what a farcical situation that was. We took Mark Robins from them, and they suspended him, and called it gardening leave!.
Absolutely no issue with people moaning at all mate, I do it all time on here. I take issue with just categorical falsehoods or unrealistic expectations of the board though. There's still people who sit at Oakwell and believe this board are taking money out of the club on the sly, that JAQ intentionally winds fans up and has huge input in transfers despite her saying she has none, that Nareev has had full control for the past 8 years amongst many other made up stuff which leads to disgraceful REAL abuse towards them. Meanwhilst, by the way, they're still pumping in millions to keep us afloat. No problems with saying the board is crap, incompetent. This season they have been. It's been a disgrace in my opinion, really disappointing. That Duff season they almost got perfect though. Last season wasn't brilliant but still managed play offs, our aims, which ultimately we got knocked out off due to yet another wrong refereeing decision with that offside goal and this season has been a shambles. So it is slowly getting worse & worse. Also got no issues saying the staff & players are crap. Personally, I think they have talent yet a severe lack of spine or mental fortitude and talent alone is not enough. Like I say, I just don't like falsehoods bud.
I agree in part and don't think they're taking money out either. Our poor record in transfer market attests to that. My gripe with the board is they keep us ticking over which they have the money to do (fact). For slightly more of and outlay the also have the money to take us further (fact). Which they won't do (fact). Which in turn wastes the money they're investing.(Fact) Can I be forgiven for thinking why did they invest in the first place?
Yeah and I suppose we could ask the same about Neil Collins then, what also tempted them to hire him in the first place. As for this season though with Clarke. We had a Play off push in our own hands up until recently, and for various reasons since, its fallen apart appallingly. Obviously this is great for the 'I was right, and I told you so', type fans. But now it puts serious doubts against wanting some stability, and wanting to stick with him for next season. We can't keep doing this to ourselves though, a new manager/coach every season!.
I wouldn't stick with him. It can only get worse baring in mind the best spell is always when you first take a job.
You'd have sacked him after that glorious failure? The game in which we were clearly robbed? Menkalist you SD.
I agree mate, I think it's daft that any one who doesn't have an emotional connection to a club would take it over. The amount of money it takes combined with the tiny chance you have to doing a miracle, it's mental to me.
