Anyone got any recommendations for gas fitters to change out an existing combi boiler?
Ours is 15 years old and starting to play up a bit.
    Cheers

This lad did ours, gave us a long warranty and I can vouch for him personally.

You will be able to get the job done less expensively using a local company I have no doubt - but I’ve just had my boiler changed by British Gas. Upgraded the size due to an upcoming extension, they put it in, sorted out some other issues, gave the whole system a power flush and set me up with Hive.

Got it three years interest free on finance too so I didn’t even have to cough owt up in advance.

Like I say, there will be cheaper, but they were quick, clean, and I’ve got no negatives at all. Electrician, builder, all came on the day arranged by them and all on the price.

Did come to £4K (it’s a big boiler though); so it wasn’t cheap but I was happy with the price for what I got, and like I say, paying it monthly on the never never. Boiler is a Worcester Bosch with twelve years warranty too.

Give Martin a call. He's a reds fan as well. Did a cracking job with ours and replaced all the radiators too. Some tricky pipework was needed but him and his lad did a sterling job. Definitely would recommend him.

Was just about to recommend him. He's my cousins husband and a top bloke, removed our back boiler and fitted combi.

Might not be the best option. Gas is going to be phased out at some point in the next couple of decades. House builders will be prevented from fitting gas boilers to new houses after this year so boiler suppliers will be scaling down production. That means they will become much more expensive. If you've definitely decided to do it, do it sooner rather than later.

Edit; the ban on gas boilers in new homes will probably also result in higher costs for parts when your new boiler starts to go wrong in 10 years or so. Also qualified gas fitters will become harder to find and again more expensive.

Personally, I would prefer to go with a heat pump but we have nowhere to put the heat exchanger at our house so I'm in a bit of a quandary. Our boiler is 10 years old and cost us £200 to repair at New Year and would have been a lot more if my step son wasn't a qualified gas fitter and did the work for nothing.
