I thought Connell was decent today. I do like the fact that, however he or we are playing, he never hides. Always shows and wants the ball.

O'Keeffe's vision and range of passing is sometimes Premier League level. Unfortunately, it's just as often pub league level, hence why he's playing for us.

A good mate of mine from school was on Coventry's books for a while. He reckons that the average lower league pro can do most of the same things an average Premier League player can do. Just a lot less consistently.

Agree they were breaking on us but he kind of just went in to run across their player. I thought you could’ve possibly got the ball had he gone for it. Split second decision though I guess and we’ll miss him.

Agree with all that - still doesn’t explain his Sunday league esque errors. He does things that you’d shout at 8 year olds not to do.

Thought Connell was good today, we need his energy to help break up play, his passing can be off sometimes but can't question his effort.

I worry not having him next couple of games, dont think we can carry two players in Russell and Nwakali, good players they might be but dont think have ever seen any of them sprint.

O keefe can be brilliant going forward but shocking at defending. Decent player for league 1 would say though.

He’ll be missed. Passing a little iffy today but his dirty work was on point and I do like that midfield trio as all offer different strengths.

Can't comment on today as I missed the game, but when used properly he's our best player in my opinion.

Not sure having the captaincy is working for him, he seems to try too much to do these Hollywood passes and loses possession too often, not sure if that's him trying too much or if that's what he's been told to do but either way he needs to simplify his game a bit.

When he's focused on doing the Scowen type job of buzzing about, winning the ball and moving it on, he's fantastic.

As was intimated by another poster to Nigel earlier in the thread, if you can’t see what Luca brings to this team that not one other midfield player does or can do, then I don’t think football is for you.

It's such a weird thing to comment though, when not said in jest. Criticise all you want, but what does 'thank fk' add to conversation? What's constructive about it, when he's actually had a decent game? I just don't get it, it can't be healthy.

See his passion when we scored

That’s what we all ask for.

he’s been average this year by his standards , but is still our best player

By that theory. Who in your opinion would be. ?. I thought it was his best game for a while. But admittedly not as good as we know he can be.

Ok then when I look at how he plays with my eyes I see a player who is poor and has little to no effect on a football match; whether it be defending and winning the ball in midfield or passing the ball towards the opposition goal. He’s in no way the only midfield player in our squad that does this but this post about how he’s got a suspension.

he’s spent most of the season picking up yellows (hence the suspension) or taking an age on corners or even more regularly clapping his hands after we’ve conceded a goal. Not captain material but that’s a whole other story

We’ll miss him but he’s not the player he was last few seasons, as a few haven’t. Still been up there in performances this season in the side. Going off on a tangent but MDG already getting my player of the season.

As apparently do the majority of people on this thread - and from what I can make out in our wider fan base…

I won’t suggest you need your eyes testing.

But I will question your wider understanding of the game if you think a couple of misplaced passes today (and on any other day) meant Luca had a poor game or that he wasnt integral to the result.

I repeat: not one other player in our squad can do the job he does. Not one has the game awareness or discipline he has. Nwakali is streets ahead of him in terms of range of passing - but he is rightly not playing over him as he isn’t fit to lace Connell’s boots in terms of defensive awareness and snuffing out issues before they develop.

We will see in the next two games. Nwakali and / or Russell will have to sit and shield. I suspect Lincoln in particular may be a tough test for them in this regard.

Don’t get me wrong; it doesn’t mean we can’t win both games and win them well. But not having Connell will change the way we have to approach the games.
