We said same. If you get pulled out of position and go lunging in, you give the referee a decision to make. It was rash and needless just like Roberts at Wycombe.

In theory yes, in practice, well judging by the very few examples we’ve had, it doesn’t necessarily follow they make good/decent officials. Steve Baines springs to mind, he smiled a lot but certainly no better than the others. They are also more open to any accusations of bias and even worse, cheating.

As you say very few are attracted to the job and it's not a given they would all be good at it. The bias thing i don't understand surely the refs that haven't played the game have a interest in the game probably a fan of certain clubs.

I think a major problem is the aggro faced by referees, especially at lower level.
It must put off a lot of potential refs.

Reports of assaults on grassroots referees rise 32% - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/ce90rz88nl7o

Good summary and dont start me on the sending off. Yellow card at worst Mael got the ball in front of their player but caught him with his trailing leg.
The only thing he didnt do for them was give a penalty for Russell holding at the end

I don’t think he gets any of the ball unfortunately

It's a tough job no doubt about it but at our level the standard has got to improve. At grassroot level people have got to understand no ref no game, abuse or worse violence has got to be zero tolerance lifetime ban no exceptions.

In the old days the adage was that you never noticed a good ref.

nowadays they WANT to be noticed.

Anyone got any idea why he sent their player off the pitch for the last 2 mins ? Kept pointing at his tongue? Felatio related?

Will’s convinced that there’s something other teams do that we’re missing and that’s peeing the refs off. Whether it’s that others treat them nicer, or throws them a bung, or doesn’t keep them waiting so that every single home kick off is late. Don’t know what but summat.

Bust lip I think so presumably blood related.

I'm usually quite good at guessing added time. Last night I was spot on. I had 6 on Saturday. Genuinely no idea where he got 10 from.

Having seen the red card tackle on youtube, I thought it was harsh, MDG didn't leave the ground, led with only one foot and had his studs pointing at the ground. Nothing particularly violent, reckless or dangerous about it. The only bad thing was that he came in from behind. Not sure if he got the ball or not. Yellow card all day long...

I used to referee school games, 11-16, and there was lots of aggression and insults from the sidelines. That's just non-entity school games. Make of that what you will.

Something in that, we never have anyone, even the captain, in the ref’s ear all game like many team’s do. I don’t believe we are very streetwise in trying to ‘play’ the ref. Don’t get me wrong it shouldn’t happen, but teams who employ these ‘tactics’ seem to get many ‘borderline’ decisions. Huddersfield last Saturday were very good at it. During a late substitution, the player leaving the pitch walked very slowly, A Huddersfield player then ran to the referee and kept him ‘occupied’ whilst the subbed player stopped to take his shin pads off, before eventually leaving the pitch. Not one of our players approached the ref about it.

Thought we were fortunate. Should have had a penalty against us and the keeper should probably have been booked for handling outside the area

I thought I saw the ref show a yellow card to Smith. (But I thought the ref missed the obstruction by the northampton player.) I must have dreamt it. Telling every bugger around me. But obviously not, looking at reports.
Did I also dream the unbelievable throw in by De Giveney into our own area. ?. Putting us under enormous pressure. Possibly the worst I've ever seen.
We also need to practice the dark arts and how to pass to teammates.

It would have been a really harsh booking for being fouled as the only reason he handled was he was fouled trying to clear

Also we should have had a pen for a foul on Phillips in the box if we are claiming Northampton were robbed

I'll be honest, I think I nipped to the toilet one of the times Gauci went down, so maybe that's how I lost track of time.
