Its a fine line to tread. In an ideal world leaders should call Trump out for being a liar, rapist, failed businessman, uneducated, greedy narcissist with psychopathic tendencies and a pro-Russian admiration complex. However, its not that easy given the complexities of international life and power politics. As much as it turned my tum I thought Starmer got it about right. He played the right cards simply because he had some cards.
The problem was Zelenskyy didn’t realise he wasn’t talking to the President of the United States but Vladimir Putin , and Vance just needs a good kicking what a complete t.w.a.t
I didn't see what happened or said before the outburst, but a total embarrassing meeting, all the world must be watching and realising what children are running the US.
I can honestly see both sides from this. From a US perspective, do they keep sending money and weapons with an open ended blank cheque book. Surely the war can only escalate if one side starts getting desperate. So Trump and Vance are correct that this path could lead to World War 3. How else could it end if nuclear superpower Russia refuse to stop? I also see Ukraines plight, they understandably don't want to lose any of their territory and are fighting tooth and nail to avoid this. Russia were obviously wrong to start this, but genuinely without either a major escalation from the West, how does this war end without giving up some territory. Interested to hear from folk on here who will try to compare this with chamberlains agreement with Hitler when really it isn't comparable due to the fact that Germany did not have weapons of mass destruction which if used would result in the end of humanity as we know it. So what's the answer other than what the US want to do? I'll add to that this deal on mineral rights is probably too much of an ask on Ukraine,.no doubt Trump is demanding a pound of flesh, I do again on the other hand think countries like the US and UK should be entitled to put in place some arrangements to claw back tax payers money over time through a deal like this, but not actually like blood thirsty vampires as I suspect are Trumps terms. So again, what is another answer?
That was disgusting. Feels to me that Trump wasn’t capable of getting the upper hand with Starmer, so has turned on Zelenskyy in true ‘flip flop’ fashion. Victim blaming at its very finest. What a ******* chump he is.
Id say another answer is to act like a president and vice, and not get involved in a slanging match with someone they’d called a ‘dictator’ only days earlier. Talking to another world leader like a dog and demanding he says ‘thankyou’ whilst calling previous presidents idiots isn’t the way forward. To me it just demonstrates what the rest of us in Europe are up against, and I wouldn’t put it past Trump to join forces with anyone if there’s something in it for him.
So no answer then. No doubt that was a **** show of a live meeting but what's your alternative to see the end of this war? Nuclear launch?
The answer is for the USA to support publicly their long held allies , stop talking up Putin and Russia and talking down Ukraine .
I do get the points you make, but those were absolutely astonishing and shameful scenes. Sat watching them open mouthed and aghast. Trump is such a disgusting bully of the worst kind. I'll talk louder than you and faster than you to fill every gap and I win the argument. Honestly fear for the future with his guy in charge. Yes, the war needs to end, and yes, it's likely that it's going to need compromise and realism by Ukraine on territory. But this is not how to conduct diplomatic discussions. The US seem to just be hell bent on getting their cash back. Seems Zelensky is being mugged by both sides at the moment. One thing is for sure, Europe and the UK need to understand right now that the US is not an ally with this bloke in charge. Any scenario that arises, their only concern is what is in it for the US.
