Did ok. Much better than Saturday when he came on Hopefully that was just nerves. May well be starting on Saturday if Earl is out
I think he was caught out on Saturday with the weak header, and started a little shaky when he came on last night. But last night he grew into the game, got better and better, and by full time, didn't look out of place. So if we have a few more young uns on the fringes of the first team, get them in and play them. Cos next season, we could well bloody need them...
I thought he looked half decent last night I what I believe is a more familiar position for him on the right of a back 3. Prior to the weekend, in the couple of times I've previously seen him, I've thought he looks alright too.
Against a very difficult opponent, I thought he did really well and we actually had stability on the right side of defence for a change. No diving in, making himself available to receive the ball, solid, kept it simple. Well done.
He had a good game and if Earl can't play at the weekend, I would have faith in him as the replacement.
When I’ve seen him for the kids he’s looked better than James so I’m not surprised he’s leapfrogged him. I felt a bit daft bigging him up on here last week & then he gifted a goal to the opposition on Saturday but I thought he did well yesterday.
This is what we should be doing if we get injuries - giving young lads a go rather than stockpiling average squad players who are then benched when the first team regulars are fit again. Cuts down on the wage bill and gets something out of the academy. Granted, Barrett was from Sheff Utd originally, but you get my drift.
Exactly. We have been far too quick to splash the cash on a dozen ***** players from random clubs and left our much cheaper academy lads to rot.
Loans work if used properly, look at Lincoln’s loans over the last 5 years or so, they have had some excellent success with them. Which raises the question is it our identification of the player or the way we use them?
I agree the problem is like when 18 year old jalo got his chance people can't wait to rip him to bits even though he started one game all season away at man United in the league cup. The rest 5, 10, 15 minutes here and there.
yeah he gets so much hate for some reason and he's one of the few players who has the ******** to take on a player
Honestly backwards some folk young lads like jalo get hammered at every opportunity, then you've got Humphrys going through the motions and fans singing his name.
Yeah I get that. With Jalo I think it's that we've always had high expectations with him, so sometimes folk are a little disappointed with him. Personally, I don't like the fact that Hassell said he needed 30 mins (I think) to get up to speed in games. To me that's poor. As a young lad, he should be absolutely ready to impact a game at the drop of a hat. However, when it becomes clear that we aren't reaching the playoffs (which you could argue would be pretty soon), I'd start him for the rest of the season. Give him a run. You never know.
Maybe he see's other players higher up the pecking order doing naff all, doesn't get a chance and barring injury thinks "FC UK this for a game of soldiers"?
If he thinks that then as an 18 year old making his way in the game at a club that's had back to back playoff seasons, he can sling his hook for me. Get fit, impress the manager in training, and maximise your minutes in the first team - all whilst performing to a high standard in the U21s.
