Who are the modern day power houses? I'll go Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Aston Villa, West Ham, Newcastle, Forest and Everton. With the finances involved and signing the right players. Anyone of those teams could be trophy winners. Even if they'd struggled the previous season. Reason I brought this up is Leeds could be a super club if they got it right and why haven't they got it right?
Man city, liverpool, arsenal. The rest are bang average And you surely can't consider a club who have only won a league cup medal this millennium and currently languishing five places above the relegation slots as a powerhouse can you?
Proper powerhouse clubs are Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, with Villa and Toon looking to join the party.
You've been on the booze tonight. Man City and Liverpool are the only two big sides we have who have the crowds, worldwide fan base, and most importantly win trophies on a regular basis.
Man Utd, Everton and possibly Newcastle will be in deep doo-doo in the next few years due to FFP and the PSR rules. Utd will probably have to flog Rashford/Mainoo/Garnacho. Newcastle Isak/Bruno/Gordon maybe. They sold Anderson to Forest for a stack of money. Everton have nobody to sell - they've sold Gordon and Richarlison in recent years and still got a deduction. It wouldn't surprise me if you get one of those dodgy swap deals to cook the books this summer between those clubs.
City have just bought there success, I used to like city when they were a proper club in the 90s and early 00s. At maine road now there just a plastic club. I Don't really watch the Premier League used to love it in the 90s aswell.
Didn't realise things were that dyer for those clubs. Maybe even got caught up in euphoria with Newcastle. A few of lads I know round Ponte are Newcastle fans.
Every club have really. Some even cheated ala Arsenal years ago. Can't put all City's success down to 'just buying it' because Man Utd and Chelsea have spent 1 and a half billion quid the past 5 - 10 years, and look where they are (though Chelse have slightly improved). Everton, Newcastle, Villa all spent millions and millions.
Ye maybe so I just can member when they 1st got took over buying players like robhinio, lescott and paying over the odds. Then suddenly had fans popping up all over the country.
Liverpool and Man Utd are probably still the big two, Liverpool didn’t win anything for years but still had that pull for players. Man Utd may well be the same, it’s most players dream to play for teams like that. Have to say City too, probably most players dream to play for them too, but for different reasons. Plus they’ve won absolutely everything to win. Arsenal and Chelsea. But other than that, not sure who the super clubs could be. The others are big clubs yeah, but you’re not going to some random country and seeing a spurs/Villa/ Newcastle fan without their regional accents. Not English, but British. I think if both Celtic and Rangers had the money available that the premier clubs have they both would be world super powers. History along with the fan base.
I agree on your point, but I do think and have seen kids growing up now who see City as they used to see Manchester united 20 years ago mate. Same with Arsenal & chelsea
Aren’t Everton & Newcastle fine now? I’ve heard loads of talk of Everton splashing the cash in the summer & Newcastle should be ok, they haven’t signed any first team players bar the dodgy Greek goalie / Anderson swap deal for 18 months now. They were bidding £65m for Guehi in the summer so they’ve definitely got money to spend.
Newcastle are in very early days of growth after years of neglect under Ashley (who basically used the club to advertise his own company rather than bringing revenues in). The new owners are growing the revenues, talk of stadium expansion or a new one. They also had a shité squad with no saleable assets, not the case now, got a few players that would bring in top money.
