Fifa to give $1bn as Europe nears Club World Cup deal - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cgl0zrxl8z9o
But there's too much football. Here's an idea, why doesn't the FA tax any English team taking part, say 20% of any prize money, and distribute it between the sides from the National League and below who have been unfairly robbed of a lucrative Cup replay in the intravening years. Tamworth lost out on approx £800k this season because they were denied a replay with Tottenham. The sort of money that would probably keep the lights on there for a few seasons.
I think we set a tariff. We do it on all foreign clubs playing in UK. In addition we can set a tariffs of foreign owned clubs. Also tariffs on Google, Facebook / Meta, WhatsApp, etc. Tariffs are the future, the new garlic bread and soccer can benefit too. ;-)
The thing is, they kinda already have. The Premier League is effectively closed, what with the 3 promoted sides going straight back down for a second successive season (I believe the last time that happened was when we went down). They've turned the group stages of all of the European Cup competitions into a league system, where every side plays a minimum of 8 fixtures. There's the club world cup, which again, commits City and Chelsea to at least 3 additional fixtures. The top teams are still committed to whatever Cup competitions they've set up in the US and middle East, undoubtedly named after some mediocre former player or Corporate sponsor (the Audi Cup for example) So for me, the idea that the top clubs will break away if the FA try and do something to aid lower league football, is something of a misnomer, it's already happened. City will play the best part of 20 fixtures (if not more) outside of the domestic competitions this season. They're already having their cake and eating it.
The PL & its clubs are still able to bring significant sums into the FA coffers though without them they would be significantly financially worse off.
This is a disappointing thread. With a title like 'obscene' I was hoping for phlange but thought there'd be norks at the very least.
