Nice story to start the day https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/31280/football-pub-wins-last-minute-reprieve
They're good lads Luke and Tom. They run Retrodome up near Morrisons, and I've got to know them a bit over the last few years. Luke's a Barnsley fan, so when I'd heard it was shutting, he was my first thought of someone who I thought might be interested in rescuing it as he's got a few successful businesses in Barnsley. Tom's a Wednesday fan mind
Bet they can't wait for the folk queuing up who were disappointed by its closure originally. If all those commenting spent a 5er a week they'd be laughing.
I was in the Retrodome a couple of weeks ago, and what a success story that is. I'm not sure if other towns an cities have anything like it but we are very lucky to have it here in Barnsley. Some of the old games are fantastic. Great way to keep the kids entertained for a few hours.
Not just the kids Love the Space Invaders, Galaxian, Pac Man video machines . Takes me back to a time when I had hair and a good eyesight.
Old arcades are popping up all over now, but Retrodome was one of the first and probably still is the biggest one in South Yorkshire. I've spent many a happy hour in Retrodome and they keep adding to it or rotating machines to keep it fresh.
We have a couple in Liverpool- most popular one is ARCains - 4 floors of gaming heaven. Me and and my daughter spent hours in there over the holidays
They are fully aware of the buildings importance in the formation of our club and they would like to fill it full of Barnsley stuff. A Museum of a pub if you like. I was up there last Saturday morning casing the joint out and vast parts of the lower part of the building are unused including what was the original dressing rooms for Barnsley St Peters. The alchoves made for the positioning of candles still exist which probably shows the last time it was modernised. The potential is there for this to be a major family venue for fans on a matchday. Certainly there will be a lower bar and the yard will be opened up. Away from the Saturday football, the boys intend forming a Sunday team and have taken on my suggestion of calling them "Dove Wanderers". This is in homage to the team of the same name that formed the backbone of Barnsley St Peter's in 1887. There is even talk of a Chocolate and White strip (Tom's suggestion of Blue and White stripes was politely ignored).
