At least one other person sees it the same as me then. Good players going stale, basic mistakes week after week, lack of effort, lack of fitness, inability to shut a game down. All coaching related. It doesn’t take a world beater to run about or be fit, it takes someone motivated.

Ironically we've just given the head coach job to a man who showed no loyalty to us once before and no commitment just a few months ago when his heart wasn't in playing anymore so he quit

Its the correct decision all be it too late, the lad can talk the talk ete, etc, but from very early on in his tenure it was apparent that the job fazed him, especially at home.
Sormaz should fall on his sword now.

I get the impression that these 10 games are not to be used to only judge the interim coach. The spotlight should be on all on yhe footballing side.

Yeah and it's a disgrace that they can throw in the towel like they have, and like they did for Collins as well.
It's always the easier thing to do though, get rid of the manager/coach instead, and try to put all the blame on him.
And I wouldn't mind betting on this all happening yet again, this time next year, under these terrible owners!!.

Not going to try to argue Clarke is a great head coach because he hasn't done enough to convince me of that. Several times his substitutions have disrupted the team when they weren't necessary. Some of the games have been as dull as I can ever remember. Collins didn't produce heart racing football either, but at least his team won a lot of games. And I can't imagine Clarke's default position of laying the blame elsewhere will have endeared him to some of the players. It's something he's clearly worked on but he was still doing it after the last match.

But for me the real problem is the sporting director. Recruitment has been appalling. I can't previously remember us signing players for the sake of it, but we have under Sormaz. We've missed our targets before plenty of times, but now, when we do that, we'll just sign anyone, no matter their quality, just so we can say we've signed someone. The player doesn't even have to excel in the position we claim we've signed them for.

And even in the club statement announcing Clarke's dismissal, Sormaz makes it clear who is in charge of football at our club, "we will take some time to ensure the next appointment is the right one with a focus on playing identity, returning to high pressing and attacking football."

If you're in charge mate, as you clearly are, even dictating our style of play, then you should carry the blame for our failure and it should have been your dismissal that was announced.

We're going to waste another season because you'll be in charge of recruiting the new manager, you'll be in charge of our coaching and our style of play, you'll be in charge of recruiting the players and this time next season when we're hovering around the relegation places, I hope our owners have finally managed to suss where the fault lies.

    Wow!
Just got in from work and this.......
Ok imho...an underwhelming appointment to start with but I thought good luck to the fella and I stated we would probably finish about 10th, just based on the squad...he had no strikers and too many slow but technically good midfielders...oh and with the exception of Roberts a defence who couldn't tackle....don't get me started on the keeper situation.
So the play was better than last season but the mistakes seemed to be more and worse but thats probably our car boot recruitment.
Do I think Clarke was a good coach?....not great but I was prepared to give him time and better tools....he received neither.
I can't imagine the conversations between our (ahem) recruitment team when he saw the dross he acquired in Jan. I mean "right we are in the play offs, I need a couple strikers (as per summer) as a minimum and some cover at left wing back"..."no problem Mr Clarke, we'll sort that for you.....there you go just what you asked for!!!" Jesus...totally disrespectful to the coach and our fan base.
Ok subs were baffling at times and we looked uninspiring quite a lot with our usual 65 minute flat performances and yea he should have got a better tune out of most of players but I still lay the blame with Sormaz and the recruitment.
I just hope this ain't costing us another wedge in compo.
    I'm an angry red tonight.

That's my feeling. The squad is nowhere near as bad as people make out.

Is it? We have one recognised striker at the club. We have earl and mdg guaranteed starts every week due to having very few choices and both of them were abject failures last season too (they played together all the second half ofmthe season and we kept just one clean sheet). We have no runners or movers at all in midfield. Nobody capable of running box to box. We have just signed a lad from the french 3rd division (I think) who has managed a handful of goals in his career and an unemployed bloke from America.

    This squad is awful

That’s extremely harsh. There’s showing loyalty and then there’s just being completely stupid. Who knows earth would turn down a move to Villa to stay at Barnsley? Regardless of how well we were doing that year.

Biggest disappointment for me is the appointment until the end of the season.

There are a few decent options of a permanent manager out there and we’ve gone with the choice that is supposed to connect with the fans. No doubt we’ll have lined up some “my town, my blood” tubthumping bollócks to accompany the early bird pricing.

Well it's going to be like that choose what. If it's Connor incharge the players we have now will be nowhere near the same ones that start in August

This is just groundhog day yet again.I feel for Darrell Clarke who seemed to be decent bloke/ manager. Over the season, poor performances has finally been his downfall. However he was not helped by the transfer dealings or non dealings that gave him an unbalanced squad, was it the managers fault - no but as you can not sack the players, the easy option is to make the manager the fall guy.
Will performances improve, let's hope so ! My son is a Huddersfield fan ( don't ask ) but I joked with him that Micheal Duff is barnsley bound and then this happened today.it may be pure coincidence......
I really loved it when Connor was a barnsley player first time round and Darrell Clarke should be given credit for giving him a coaching role in his set up, I just hope the team return to playing in a more cohesive attacking way. But on a serious note this can not keep happening every season

We've conceded 50 plus goals.. which would suggest that our defence and keeper(s) are actually worse than our current position..

So Conor is getting it ehh, till the end of the season ?.
A big cut in staff is needed, and for me it's got to start with Devaney and Hassell and Stead!.
Yeah it means another few steps backwards for us, and a few more seasons of garbage, in Lg One.
But this is all we ever seem to do under these terrible owners, so maybe they are the ones who should do the decent thing here...

Darrell Clarke didn’t have any choice in giving him a coaching role

We'll see if Rodrigues gets a few more starts....... Don't think Sormaz will be happy with the limited minutes so far.
