I realise this might be polarising, but couldn't help think 'why'? Just been given an MBE for 'services to football & broadcasting'.

Yes he was a good player and yes he was a half-decent pundit. But both of those he was well paid for. An MBE though? Really? How much has he done to grow the game at grass roots level? How much has he done to grow the game in developing or under-funded demographics? How much has he done to develop broadcasting?

If he's done a shed load of work outside of what he's been well paid for, then fair play, I'm happy to be corrected.

He’s OK… he once took a group photo of our golfers after we’d finished playing

I like Alan Hansen. I place no value on these kind of awards so don't care whether he gets one or not.

I rarely watch MOTD now. It is probably more about the lack of competitiveness in the top flight now and the money than the pundits. I used to love Hansen and Brooking back in the day too. We nearly stuck it up him at Anfield on a foggy night on Merseyside.

He was seriously ill in the summer, dunno what with, but I think he wasn't expected to make it, but he did. Not sure how his health is now, whether that's got any relevance or not.

Awards are for children and people who have done something brave or heroic to save people’s lives. No others are really needed and most are a bit pathetic. Any ‘honour’ given in the name of the ‘British Empire’ is bad taste at best and many are corrupt*. But at least we’ve got this far without anyone complaining that rugby player hasn’t been knighted!

*For example, the Tories ‘had to’ put David Cameron, the man who got the ball rolling on ******* our country up, into the House of Lords**, so that he could be made Foreign Secretary. Well, he was Foreign Secretary for 7 months, but he still seems to be in the House of Lords. That’s £361 of our taxpayers money per day he’s entitled to, for…well, forever I guess.

**Those demanding an end to ‘unelected bureaucrats’ having a say in our laws missed that lot didn’t they

Paisley wasn’t knighted. He was given an OBE. Back in those days sports people had to do something really impressive to get knighted. Even Bobby Moore only got an OBE. Then again, Paisley doesn’t seem to be valued by the supporters of his own club, who say Jurgen Klopp is their greatest ever manager.

    Klopp
1 European Cup (they wouldn’t have qualified for that year’s European Cup in Paisley’s time, as they weren’t even English Champions)
    1 European Super Cup
    1 League title
    1 FA Cup
    2 League Cup
    1 Charity Shield

    Paisley
    3 European Cups
    1 UEFA Cup
    1 European Super Cup
    6 League titles
    No FA Cups
    3 League Cups
    6 Charity Shields

He was a good player, but he was also a dirty player, whenever he jumped to head the ball with an opponent, he had his elbow in the back of the opponent's neck. Got away with it throughout his career.

Brilliant defender in his day, was rumoured to have been offered player manager role at oakwell towards the later part of his playing days, don't know how true it was.

Gary Lineker the highest paid football pundit ever. OBE for what? Other than being paid a scandalous amount for his pun- ditry what has he done? Hansen was a great player but of his time. I daresay most of that Liverpool team have received MBE s or suchlike.
