In words to his defence, Barton told the magistrate that had he kicked her in the head as alleged, he’d have caused a lot more damage than the lump the size of a golf ball that was mentioned.

    He is truly unbelievable.

He was asked that in the podcast I listen to did you kick your wife in the head. He said the same thing.

A 12 week suspended sentence is nothing.

Someone needs to complain about it being a lenient sentence and get it looked into.

A serious assault on an innocent woman from a man with a long history of violent crimes and he gets a suspended sentence because he's scared the **** out of the victim that much that she's still in a relationship with him? Utter disgrace.

He's been banging on about Two Tier Sentencing on his twitter the last few weeks. Usually he wants tougher sentencing for stuff like this - particularly when someone Brown is in the Dock.

He's actually quite a good follow - in that whenever you've had a really bad day at work, give his timeline a read and it makes you feel that you aren't so bad after all.

It’s a disgrace. He is an abuser - and she’s either got Stockholm syndrome, is frightened to death of him, or has other motivations we aren’t aware of.

He belongs locked away from causing any more damage. With him it seems inevitable.

Based on what I've read in this thread, I suspect it's a consequence of his wife not supporting the prosecution and providing evidence as a defence witness. It looks like the CPS have continued the prosecution based on the evidence available, as they're entitled to do in the interests of justice, but it's obviously a much weaker overall case when the victim doesn't support it. Sadly, this isn't an uncommon scenario for domestic violence cases in general. There was at least one episode of "24 Hours In Police Custody", possibly the best documentary series I've ever watched, which covered this issue.

Presumably, by appealing his sentence, Barton will open up the possibility that it could be increased, as well as his hoped-for reduction.

Can that happen? Someone who feels their sentence is unjust can appeal and have that sentence increased?

I'm not an expert on this, but I'm pretty sure that the CPS will also get to make representations in any hearing.

It's a bit like appealing red card suspensions, I think. If Joey Barton was called Cameron McGeehan he'd be looking at life inside.

Would love to know how much he has spent on legal fees. Fines. Compensation etc over the years.
Peanuts to him I'd imagine, but a fair whack.
Not even sure Jail time bothers him.

I don't think he's that flush, otherwise he wouldn't be doing the social media grifting with the podcast, patreon etc

    Fair play then.

He must just be doing the grift for other reasons then.

How much of that is property and investments? Being worth 7.5m doesn't mean he's flush with cash

I get that. But I don't think he's that worried about the court costs when he loses.
