Dropped Connell and Phillips as they've not been upto it. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/31482/hourihane-explains-dropping-connell-and-phillips
"I think we’ve seen an improvement. Mansfield was all over the place which is understandable. But in the last two I have seen good signs in terms of the press, running, pinning the opposition back." Can we have an improvement in playing good football, scoring goals and winning games please Conor? I don't give a stuff about how quickly you can knacker out our forwards by getting them to chase defenders. I'd prefer them fresh, sharp and scoring goals.
Yayyy...good old Connor, so rather than picking players based on their spreadsheet values, he has seen what we can see, which is, that those two players, talented as they are, are not doing it. I am not saying our temporary coach is the answer but he has identified this and the discipline and acted, well done I say.
He downed tools weeks ago. Been playing with a face like a smacked arse, it’s obvious he wants away in the summer. Can’t say I blame him really but surely it would do us all some good if he finished his time with us on a high.
I’m confused. When Clarke did this, he was attacked for throwing players under the bus. How is this different?
Agree on Connell. I think Phillips is worth having on for the goals / assists he can bring despite being absent for stretches in games. I thought we played really well the first two thirds or so of the game. Fast and intense.
I'll be amazed if he wins a match. As for Phillips, we seem to be talking/working down his value at exactly the same time that it looks like we're going to be forced into a distressed sale. Big congratulations to all involved.
Yep, he’ll end up going for a daft fee for sure. Doesn’t want to be here, not even playing and will leave for £1.5m max. Be undisclosed anyway but someone (very likely Preston) will get a bargain.
I don't think it's good for managers to air dirty washing in public. Punctuality is important, but people can be late for valid reasons. I'll cut Conor some slack though, it's his first time in charge and if he applies those same standards to himself, fair dos.
Personally I’m glad he’s switching it up a bit and doing it his way , do i think he’ll get the job full time probably not but win or lose I’d rather see something different.
Hmmm… I disagreed massively with Clarke regarding this Dinosaur approach to management so it’s only fair on the other side. What’s the context behind Phillips being late to a meeting? He’s just had a new-born, is that really the right approach to take? How do we know the birth didn’t go as expected? Purposely including him in the squad knowing full well you’re not going to bring him on? The players is aware of this too… Unneccessary travel. Nope, I don’t agree with this & he’s talking himself out of getting the gig full-time.
Professionalism is different to standards on the pitch. Alan Clarke as opposed to Darren in your post. Made sure that was the first thing he brought into the club. Neither player has pulled any trees up of late any many on here have pointed that out. And surely the players themselves know that.(throwing the Teddy out of the cot is not a good trait. Players get paid good wages. They should earn em.) As for getting Less than what they may be worth. Then the players aren't exactly attracting bidders with the performances on the pitch. Styles a prime example. Teams not prepared to take a massive hit. But more of a punt. Connell. Phillips and Styles I rate highly. As I know they can perform better than they are showing. Obviously past tense in Styles case. I hated my employers for their lack of standards and incompetence. But I never dropped mine, in the work I did. Roll on next season. But I do like the break lol. I need to recover. The chron said last week that some players will have to be moved on. Regardless of who becomes head coach/manager. As the drop in revenue will obviously hit hard.
To be replaced by a punt from non league/abroad who might be half decent in a couple of years if all the stars align.
Most players are punts at our level unless you're a brum. Phillips and Connell included. That doesn't mean I like our process.
Everything that Conor says there, regards Phillips I can’t disagree with, assuming it’s the truth. Rules are important and respect is paramount. But it’s got no business being aired publicly. I’m surprised at that. However, the most concerning thing about that little article for me is that he reckoned Connell did well when he came on.
