Tarkowski for Everton nearly sent Macallister into next week with one of the worse challenges I’ve seen since Graham Souness was allowed to play football, VAR review, no sending off, alright sure.

Yeah the Everton lad knew what he was doing and is lucky to still be on the pitch and so is McCallister

It was a bad follow through. Think the fact he easily got the ball saved him from the red though.

Probably worth a suspended sentence never mind a red card.

Nothing wrong with the technology. It’s the people that are the issue.

Haven’t got the balls to tell their mate they got it wrong. No idea how he doesn’t give a red on the field to begin with - but having failed to do so, how the so called professional ref watching the replays on tv screens can’t see a studs up, shin high, full force follow through is beyond me.

Ball first? Yes. That’s irrelevant and doesn’t form part of any law. It ticks every box for serious foul play, like Carragher said on Sky.

When big Dunc is even saying it’s a stonewall red card you know there’s an issue.

Meanwhile we got red cards for Adam Phillips at Wembley which a var ref didn’t think was a harsh call, we’ve had red cards for Marc Roberts and MDG this season for things which in comparison were barely even fouls.

The lack of consistency and the lack of ability to even apply basic laws is the issue. VAR is fine if it is used right. The problem is in this country it’s not even close to being used right.

Definite Red from my seat. There were a few iffy 'challenges'.
Played well did Cousin Alexis. As did Diaz

All VAR has done is get more of the same people who are inconsistent, make poor decisions and slow the game down involved. It was designed not to re-referee games yet thats all it does, and still gets it wrong.

The technology is great. But the people using it are being asked to make subjective decisions with it. Therefore, there's always going to be 'errors' hence why they adopt the clear and obvious approach, which again, is subjective.

In this case a blind octopus could see it was a sending off though, not really subjective when its that bad.

I work with a bluenose. So blinkered. Said won the ball so fair tackle. But modern football isnt like that now. Its a awful challenge and for Macalister to be able to continue was a minor miracle.

Cundy was correct on the sports bar. He has mend to follow through and put one on him said he had done it himself as a player

I've only seen a still of it to be fair, which did look bad. Though surely that furthers the point that the technology isn't the issue, it's the blind octopus that's using it which needs addressing.

They've automated goal line tech and semi automated VAR for offsides. It works for both of those because the answer is one or the other.

I honestly don't see the point in having a referee in a room. Have the actual referee reviewing those sorts of decision in real time.

Why not trial it with ex players instead of who the hell is doing it now? Can't be worse

    Dirtiest player I've ever seen.

Ray McHale Lg Cup quarter final replay at Oakwell. I rest my case.

    I think it's now time for VAR to be used ONLY for objective facts, like;

    offside,
    ball out of play,
a goalkeeper handling the ball outside his penalty area,
whether a foul is inside or outside the penalty area.

I'm struggling to think of any more decisions an official can make that are not subjective or involve deciding a player's intent. All such opinion based decisions should be left to the referee. It worked reasonably well for over a 100 years after all.
