I don't know. I couldn't list every available manager just like you couldn't. But I wouldn't want to appoint very unsuccessful coach with zero managerial experience other than an absolutely appalling caretaker manager stint just because he was a good midfielder
It was a blunder though because even if the keeper was experienced, Mael has made it much harder than it should have been by failing to block off the attacker. He moved to the left and (as we looked at it in the highlights) and allowed the attacker a straight run at the keeper.
I agree with a lot of that but not the bit about ‘we were still in with a chance of the Play Offs when Conor took over.’ I think the Club decided we wouldn’t bother with the Play offs on 31 January, possibly a little before.
Who’s laying out underperforming higher earners an equivalent contract? We’re stuck with the worst offenders until their contracts expire.
The position will be clearer come the end of the season. If we can improve against the higher placed teams he’s got many already wishing him well. If we get mullered and can only wish for the days of game narrow defeats to those down the bottom end then it will be someone else.
I agree that it comes across that he's only concerned about himself. He certainly talks the talk but I fear that everything wrong will be someone else's fault. Perfect fit for Mladen. Bullsh.t bingo could be very entertaining next season.
Another gamble gone wrong. Clarke should never have been sacked. Getting worse and worse. What I will say though, it would be very Birmingham and very Barnsley tomorrow if it ended to a 2-1 away win.
I’m not against him having the job full time, we all kind of assumed he was next in line anyway didn’t we? The board are probably thinking he’s a fans favourite and will therefore hopefully be afforded abit more time. My issue is I just can’t see any highly thought of manager (for our level) wanting to come in to this club in its current state. From the outside looking in, it looks an awful job. You’re basically tasked with achieving a minor miracle and if you don’t, you’re out. It’s a tough gig.
Clarke would have been crucified for the results and comments over the last five games. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not attacking Conor here. Just asking for consistency.
Clarke, and Collins even more so, were both crucified. And for having the audacity to put us in the top 5-6, so shame on them both. And if Conor gets it and does well for the first six months for example. There's every chance then that he'll get poached away by somebody else. And if he doesn't do well, we know what happens next don't we.
Totally agree mate. Planning for 2 seasons never works at our club because if any players are decent in first season they probably gone before 2nd season
loads of good points there mate. I would go for Michael Duff but pretty much based on the same rationale. He’s got more experience , which is important. would love to see him here, dare I say it, for the long haul….
Results yes. I never saw much wrong with what conor said he just explained why 2 players didn't start when he was asked. He didn't go in on the players after every defeat.
Just met a Villa fan and had a good chat about Conor and the work he did at Villa with the youngsters. He described him as an inspiring leader when he was with them. Having just read Conor's comments about the need for discipline, everyone mucking in and building a team mentality he is the man. My 4th repeat of these feelings. Appoint Conor now!!
Conor is clearly a massive asset to the club in a coaching capacity and getting rid of him would be lunacy. However, under the current, very trying circumstances, I'd still happier if he had someone experienced alongside him. Warne being the obvious choice, but I'm sure others are out there.
The fundamental problem does not lie with the coach. When the owner and the sporting director believe the squad is top four quality but the fans who watch the games do not, the fall guy is always going to be the head coach. Regardless of budget the January transfer window was beyond shambolic. Another reoccurrence of that in the summer and there will be a new head coach before Christmas.
