So once again we stated we would make a decision in the summer. Waited for him to win one game and then gave him the gig. Banter club. Our improved performances brought us 5 points from 6 games. Well I guess it confirms we don’t have a pot to piss in if that’s the best option we can find. Good luck Conor.
1 win in 7 doing a fantastic job cheap option again we will be sacked within 8 months when the owners and recruitment team fail him
I had wondered if he had this written into his contract before signing as player-coach, namely that he be given first option for the post of first team coach should it become vacant. It doesn't surprise me and, to be honest, I am not disappointed if this comes about. He has shown the desire for the role, has a great legacy with the club as a player, has rapport with the fans and has played at the highest level under some outstandingly good managers. Interesting that he seems to have imposed some order and discipline into the first team squad. I hope it comes good again for him today and in the years ahead. Good choice, especially as the club means so much to him.
Happy with that. Think he’ll do a good job and having been here all season knows what we need. To be fair the bloke is a winner.
Be careful what you wish for ,we could do far worse than CH. I wasn't blown away with the last appointment, better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Good luck, can definitely see young uns at least given a chance over ridiculous January panic signings.
I’d love to go for a pint with Darrell Clarke & find out his thoughts on all this. He gets the sack after back to back defeats that follow three consecutive victories. His replacement is apparently getting the job after 1 win in 6. Regardless of your views on how well Hourihane may do, that just makes us look like idiots.
Wasn't it always the intention for Connor to become Head Coach at some point when he packed up playing and moved into coaching but it's happen sooner than most expected. But good luck Connor hope it works out.
I think it’s quite clear from what everyone has said that he’s working very hard behind the scenes. I do think there’s been some good performances in his time in charge and glad we finally got the win. I just hope we get some good results in these last few games and take some positivity into next season. Club needs to back him in the summer. If we are selling Phillips, DKD or whoever else, we need to replace them with good players from league 2.
Congratulations Conor. Not who I wanted and a little surprised that he's been appointed this early but I feel this is the common sense appointment. He knows the club, and the players, and doesn't seem fazed at playing the younger players which I feel we need to do. I think we also needed someone who will have a good relationship with the fans and he's already starting with credit in the bank and I think this will prove crucial when he undoubtedly hits a sticky patch in the future. The head coach will need to have a good working relationship with the Sporting Director and it was obvious the previous incumbant wasn't. Whether we like it or not, and I undoubtedly don't, but the Great Mladen is here to stay and if we want to be successful as a club then the head coach needs to be able to work with them and I would assume this has been a factor in his early appointment. I also feel Conor has the intelligence and capacity to manage upwards as well as downwards and I think this is crucial for the team to move forward. Ultimately, I'm satisfied with the appointment and I hope we get behind him and the team.
Whilst ever the current structure is in place the head coach appointment is largely irrelevant. I want Conor to succeed but like Darrell his success or failure will be largely defined by the players he has at his disposal.
Absolute laughable appointment one win in 6 n gets job. Shows to me never had no intentions bringing any body else
Those three consecutive victories were strange ones though, and they followed five defeats and a 0-0 draw with Burton at home. He was hardly flourishing, let’s be honest here. There seemed no plan, no improvements and the bloke looked genuinely defeated. His body language and the way he spoke about the players was hugely concerning. Whether Conor proves successful only time will tell. But I don’t think it was idiotic to remove Darrell.
