In fairness though their managers and coaches will see him every day in training so if he was impressing in training, he’d be starting or at least getting more minutes. I know you have defended him a lot on here but I can’t see how he can possibly be kept on with us.
True he needs games ,he probably as to drop a league or two to get game time. Nice to see local lads given a chance though, over overpaid players who don't put a shift in.
I agree about him dropping down. Hopefully he gets a non league club, smashes it and then can move up the football league. I think we all want the academy players and local lads to succeed.
Wow that's worse than I thought if he's shown so little in training that he can't get a regular game against players with day jobs.
O’Keefe, Cotter and Farrugia are better attacking than defensively - they’d be better as a wide midfielder or winger than as wingbacks - easy enough to adapt, just recruit the fullbacks to play behind them as necessary
He’s been Burton’s outstanding player since joining them. I’ve a mate who works there, their fans love him. Played most of his games at RWB and a few as a number 8 in midfield. Averaging 7.5 (WhoScored) at RWB for Burton. For comparison, O’Keeffe is a 7.0.
I think he’s got something about him. I think it says a lot about the lad that he’s gone on loan to Gateshead, MK Dons & Burton & seems to have been really popular with the fans at all three clubs. He’s also got a lot of pace & doesn’t seem to get injured which are two very useful attributes. I’d also take Dodgson back if he was available permanently & we could afford him. He’s done really well at Burton & I think he’s an upgrade on Gent & Farrugia & more suited to playing in a back 4.
I think it’ll be Earl and Gent (when fit) as LB options. The latter looks more defensive minded anyway, so he’ll offer good cover for Josh. The other side is the problem. None of O’Keeffe, Cotter or Lofthouse are defensively minded full backs. But neither was Cavare and we got promoted with him in a back four (and a slower, more defensive Pinillos at LB). I’d imagine Lofthouse will want a move considering his performances at Burton. I think we stick with Bland. But who knows. I think Farrugia, assuming he’s ever fit for long enough will be a wide option in this 4-3-3. Isn’t that his true position? Roberts should have the legs for another year, with the quicker left footed version (Shep) next to him. MDG and Kacper your understudies.
Unfortunately some of them dont get a chance, for signing stupid loan signings or players in January that are way not up to it.
Yeah I've been using that word all season, but it means little or nothing if the individual doesn't put in the effort. And there's not much that a manager/coach can do, if they won't apply themselves, and try to show said potential.
You'd think that would be the case but the events of today show that our owners don't make decisions based on what happens on the pitch during matches so considering the size of Pines' smile I expect him to be handed a 2 year contract
Bar Russell and humps all the ones out of contract can go. Pretty sure we have an option in our favor for humps so just a case of activating that so it should be easy enough. And as frustrating as Russell can be, he can also be good so he's worth keeping imo. The rest are dross and can go. We have so many players on books, and so many of them are significantly below the level we need them to be
Russell isn’t out of contract is he? Humphrys sounds easy but I suppose it depends on his wage. If we are playing him left wing next season then I would keep him.
