From the chairman's interview it would seem certain players will be sold to cover our financial losses. ( heard that quite a few times over the years as I've been a fan since 1968). However who and how many will be leaving, only time will tell. If some do leave I hope it is for a substantial fee and well before the very end of the transfer will eg Keiffer Moore, Liam Kitchin etc. Connor has come out and said he will be involved in recruitment, well I hope he is ', cos those presently at the club have not covered themselves in glory particularly in the last January window which was a farce. Season ticket sales will be an indicator as to how the fan base see the prospects for next season. There are a good number of players who need moving out hopefully to be replaced by better ones. Sadly players who have done well this season eg DKD, Philips etc will be sold but how many others only time will tell.
It would be worth Conor checking in with some of his former mates at Derby County and Villa, especially in defence. Sometimes, loyalty to an old mate can over-ride money, so I was thinking of Matt Clarke as a central defender. Before you say he's as old as Roberts, he's actually only 28. I also wonder what has happened to Kortney Hause at Villa. He doesn't seem to have figured anywhere recently, so it may be a non-starter. Any others who Conor could tap up?
There’s only DKD and Phillips who are saleable. Doesn’t leave much left in the squad to watch after that tbh.
DKD 2m Phillips 600k Shepherd 250k I think we will have a transfer budget around £1m and they'll look to to have a wage bill circa 4m down from 5.2m this season. That will give them a recoup of 3m minus what we lose on ST sales income.
DKD and Phillips will surely leave. Connell might still have his suitors, but I don't think his form for the last 2 years will attract the kind of bids that make it worthwhile to sell. Jalo will have attracted scouts, but again I think the board have shown that they will resist offers that don't meet our valuation. Unless he has another couple of 'Bolton games' before the end of the season, I think he'll be here next year. I don't see us getting offers for any other players, and the main focus should be on trimming the squad. I expect every out of contract or loan player to leave, including those that have another years option (Pines). We need to downsize, both in numbers and wages. If we can find homes for some under contract players (Cotter, Lofthouse, Lopata, De Geivigney) then I think we will. Not for the first time in recent years, it's gonna be a huge rebuild this summer. I expect 5-6 new names on the team sheet come the first game of next season. Like everyone else, I desperately hope that the incomings are of a far higher standard than those that have been recruited in recent windows. With limited funds, I've no doubt (and no problem) with those new faces being a mixture of frees, loans and gambles, but I'd like fewer of them and more targeted attempts, supplemented by use of the young 'uns.
I'd say that Conor hasn't covered himself in too much glory either, player coach, assistant to Clarke, Head coach, not much to be excited about so far.
I accept that DKD will probably have to go to balance the books, and to be fair, the lad deserves to play at a higher level. He's too good to be languishing in mid table in League 1. But I hope to God we get more than 2 Million for him otherwise some team will have had our pants down.
Hause has been out for nearly 3 years with a knee injury... I'd forgotten about him. Sounds like the sort of signing we'd make. Very much doubt he'd be as desperate as to come here if he's recovered. Being released this summer.
why do we think that DKD will be sold, there are a lot of players not in the first team that we could let go. if you look at saving on salaries cutting the wage bill surely would be the first thing to look at and how much of a sell on clause would we have to pay if we sold our best players whoever they are
Mark my words, if DKD gets player of the season he will be gone. That's the Barnsley way. If he doesnt then he will still be gone.
We need to cut our cloth in other areas, selling DKD would be football suicide. We need to build a team around him.
I know I’m in minority but I don’t think they will sell him unless an offer round £5m comes in or unless he forces it. Don’t see him going for £2m as some say.
Parekh has already said we will have to sell players this summer. Who else can command a half decent fee? Phillips maybe, but he’s not exactly done a lot since Christmas. No one else is worth anything.
But at the same time, that doesn't mean we'll take the first offer either. I actually think DKD won't be sold in the summer, but if offers come in for anyone else, I think we'll listen. I disagree that nobody else 'is worth anything'. All our contracted players are worth something, and probably would strengthen other sides. There's loads of money sloshing around even at our level.
Very much doubt there’ll be any interest in any of our defenders! As for midfield maybe Russell could demand a decent fee, has some talent but not the work rate to match. I think Connell would have some interest but his stock has fallen drastically. Up front Humphrys could demand a decent fee if the extra year was triggered possibly. We couldn’t give Watters away and Jalo is still only a work in progress. Not a lot of cash to be had for a rebuild from that lot which is why I think DKD will be sold. Obviously hope not like….
If we do sell DKD and Phillips then potential names for replacements I'd like to see us go for would be Oli Pearce from York City and Luke Molyneux from Doncaster Rovers.
Neerav has gone public in saying we will need to sell, and he’s the biggest asset we have. Teams will be queueing up for him, so we’re in a decent position to get good money. If we get £2m for him, just one season after paying 750k, that’s good business. Especially considering how terrible we’ve been. I guess the only worry is what sell-on clause Mansfield have on him.
