I've been going since 1981 but 8 home wins in 31 attempts is hardly knee jerk stuff combine that with being on course for the lowest finish in 20 years, then I'd say there's reasonable grounds for concern.
People make their own choices, Season Ticket or not, at the end of the day its their money to choose how they wish, but alarmingly there's more and more dropping off, I haven't been back since Blackpool and I'm starting to miss it less and less tbh.

What folk have to realise. Is that Barnsley gave him the opportunity to go full time pro. So I'm pretty sure he's thankful for the opportunity. Top and bottom line League 1 football. At tarn.
Bradford still got plenty plenty of work to do. (Donny away next) . Imo Conor will have the biggest say. As to whether we keep him. Megabucks are not on the cards. Imo given where he's at, at the mo. Fekk Bradford.

We are the club who brought him into pro football at 21, from the 9th tier. The club he signed a new contract with. Who found him a good club in the fourth division to go and get valuable minutes with. Shep knows what BFC have done for him. He wouldn’t rock the boat, not that kind of lad.

If the staff at Oakwell rate him, he’s back here replacing Pines/McCarthy next season.
Would be lunacy to let a young left footed centre half who has excelled in the division below go for anything under seven figures, considering he’s exactly the profile we ought to be looking at in all areas of the pitch.

I hear you I do, but come on mate, let's say a bid comes in and we can bring someone in on a free to replace him, the club would more than likely to accept it if it gives Conor the ability to bring in 2 more.
I don't doubt Jack's grateful for giving him his opportunity, but so was David Hirst in 1984, these are professional footballers doing a job, loyalty is secondary.

The hard fast line this summer is bringing in fees and we haven't many that will command them, Jack may well be sacrificed.

Excellent point since the January window of 2017. I've never got attached to players. Just names on a team and balance sheet. Not bothered who we sell as long as they are replaced and the team plays well. Players come and go.

How much worth do you put on him. Is more the point. If he plays in league 1 with us. His stock will rise. And the ball is in our court. Here till 2027 if we wish to extend. Not one I'd be looking at releasing. Unless a Kitchin type offer comes in. Which is highly unlikely.

Has anyone actually seen Shepherd play this season?
I'm loving all the millions that he might or might not be worth.
His biggest appeal to us is that he might be good enough to fill a slot in the first team for a relatively small wage.

Fully understand all that and you aren't incorrect I too wouldn't be in a hurry for him to leave, the point I'm making is realistically there's DKD, Phillips, Connell, Russell who are saleable assets, you are then into Jack Shepherd territory.
He's done well at Bradford and had good reviews, if a bid comes in deemed acceptable they might cash in to provide wages for more free transfers.
Value wise, it depends what people will pay, there isn't much about in L1&L2, 400-500k for a player that's cost very little to develop might be enough.

On the subject of selling players to balance the books. If I were selling I'd have a pecking order of players to sell based on what they've achieved and whether or not they've gone stale. Connell would be top of my list to sell, as would MDG. Connell has gone stale and MDG is poor yet has high stock and rave reviews among the press. If we can get away with selling a couple of duds for decent money. It might help us keep Phillips a bit longer. That said, as mentioned earlier. It doesn't really matter as long as the replacements are up to scratch.

You're spot on, we have to scale back the squad, bring in some fees and completely remodel the set up for what looks like a different formation and style.

As we've seen in prior seasons, you can't control which players get bid for or what level they get bid for.

We should be able to cut some of what we need from contract attrition, and that's welcome, but we've got to bring fees in too to subsidise losses and the potential to create a modest budget to give Hourihane a chance.

    Not easy.

Think the club will try and move on Cotter or O'Keefe as Lofthouse is back with us and we will also try to move Dallas on if any club makes a bid for him.

If Bradford bid £500k for Shepherd he will definitely be going.

On top of that we have 3 loaners returning to their parent clubs plus some big earners out of contract in Benson Pines Mccarthy and Cosgrove.

    After that then who knows.

I’m simply using the same info as you, I’m saying what we should ask for him, and wouldn’t let him go for less. 509k is peanuts for a sought- after player, yes even in League 1

With respect. Shepherd is not going to cover the amounts we will need to cover losses and/or invest. There are 4 or 5 in the pecking order that may bring in upwards of near on 7 figure sums. And depending on how much we can get for those will dictate how we progress. if at all.
Shepherd and lopata on the contracts they are on, I'm guessing will fulfill our needs at present. There won't be a glut of frees available that you could say are better or as good as those 2. Less of a risk imo, given reports. Obviously if they fail. then we have to go again. Shepherd would hardly cover a month's losses. Same with lopata. There are many that will be released to free up wages and trim the squad down imo. Those still on contracts unable to improve their salaries will stay put. Or agree compensation.
An absolute minefield. But one thing we do need is for Mladen to up his game. (Totally involve Conor) And not have to do with the 3rd/4th/5th choices.

It's not when you look at the market, the average market value for a L1 defender of around 100 games at that level is 391k.
There are players in this league with championship games under their belt not even close to 7 figure sums, we got 3.25m for Mads Anderson from a PL league club after 100+ games in the 2nd tier, we'd get laughed at asking for 3m for a player with 20 odd games at 3rd tier.

Realism, I’d call it. If he was a 20 goal striker he might fetch £700k ish, similar to DKD. He’s a centre half with one season in L2 under his belt. I’d say £300k is realistic (especially with a sell on) until he’s proved himself a bit higher…..miserable view or not ;)
