To be fair Devaney has shown absolutely nothing to demonstrate he's good enough to be the head coach. In my opinion either Connor doesn't want him on his staff going forward or he's another job lined up. The timing is strange though, thought they may have left it until the end of the season and then have a clean break.

Good luck to him, great bloke.

I think there’s a lot of changes to come in the summer, but I’m led to believe he’s got a job lined up and should be made public in the next few days.

Highlight for me was that cup replay at Bradford. Scored twice in a 5-3 win but was genuinely unplayable for the whole game. Ripped their full-back at least three new ones.

I remember when he signed for us at the start of the 2005/06 season he had only just moved from Cheltenham to Watford. Without playing a single game for the Hornets he moved north and gave the club sterling service as a tricky winger. It’s rare these days to see such long service given to one club and he clearly settled well with his family.

I’m sad to see him go but not surprised. Good luck for the future MD and thanks for the good times.

Met him in the pub a few years back, I had him first goal scorer away at Swindon where we won 3-0 he won me £200, told him about it and asked where his pint was! Top bloke but unfortunately football has no place for sentiment and it is time for a new start

Thought you were going to say the pub was no place for sentiment and you asked him to buy you one :D.

I don't disagree with him leaving at all. Sometimes change is needed.

Assuming that Conor is not interested in his input as a coach and he doesn’t want to be putting the cones out and taking them in every session.
I’ve never watched him deliver a session but I think based on this season’s performances we need a shake up and rebalancing of the coaching team.
Just had a review of the Barnsley squads from 15/16 and 16/17, can’t see much chance of any of the players from there coming to assist.

I think it’s the right move for both parties. Both can separate and push forward. Good luck to Martin.

Rumour was Martin nearly left for Swansea and Hudds to go with Duff - but the move wasn’t right both times.

Perhaps this time he will link up with him again. Seems to make sense he’ll go somewhere as Assistant rather than Head Coach, and that implies going with someone he’s worked with already.

Great news as Conor needs to freshen up our coaching staff with an outsider.

Disco is probably annoyed to be overlooked when Darrell left.

He will always be an adopted Barnsley lad and highly thought of for all the years service he's given the club as a player and coach.

What's not to like? Our coaching staff needs freshening up and it's telling for me the article doesn't have any words from Conor.

I suppose they could have announced he was leaving after the Shrewsbury game so he could get a thank you send off from the fans.

Possibly. If so then maybe the hierarchy are giving Hourihane the opportunity to be his own.man.

    Who says he’s no good?

I’m not saying he is, but I’m also not saying he isn’t.

None of us really know - but we know a freshen up was/is needed. Perhaps Stead isn’t the issue.

He does bring a wealth of Premier League experience and also has played for many top clubs to be fair.

Maybe that's what he told them he wanted before taking the job on. conors no mug if he's serious about a career in management then he won't let anyone ruin it before it's started.
