Jordan Rhodes left aged 15 didn’t he as his dad Andy got a coaching role at Ipswich, Horsfield as far as I know was never a Reds player and Speedie left after a ‘’falling out ‘with Alan Clarke. Nothing to do with their level of ability just circumstances

As they are all still under contract. im
guessing quite a few will be offered out on loan. Or as has been known. Told they can find another club if they feel they can get more opportunity or wages than on now. Asking to be released from their contract.

No big surprises for me in that lot tbh.
Last one I was surprised at, was. Jordan Clarke.

    I don't think it is.

We usually claim to have an option for a further year in the club's favour. We didn't with the signing of Humphrys. I've linked to the article earlier in this thread.

I obviously don't know, but without the usual caveat I would suggest that both parties had a say in the contract extension. Clearly at least one party wasn't happy with the terms so there has been no extension.

His form certainly improved in the last few weeks and it looks like that was enough to offer him a new deal. But that may be on a better contract. If Humphrys wasn't at least interested in that new deal we wouldn't have bothered stating a contract offer was on the table. Doesn't mean he will sign, but if it was a definite "no" he would be in the released column.

    From my point of view...
I still have some pretty deep concerns about how little effort he put in for large parts of the season. He's proved since he can do it, but what if he gets munk on again? I don't trust him to always give his best.

Yes, Stephen Humphrys' contract with Barnsley did include a one-year option in Barnsley's favor. This option allowed the club to extend his contract for an additional year if they chose to do so. In addition to this, Barnsley has also offered a new contract to Humphrys

Jordan had to leave as he was too young to be offered Club 'digs'. As you say it was circumstances.

Hope any new deal is one year cos beyond that I'm not sure he'll put a constant 100% in.

Guessing at his age he’s said he’d like to stay for longer than a year if the deal is right so we’ve offered him a deal. If we trigger the extension anyway we might at least get minor financial compensation should another club want him so desperately this summer.

It’s Geoff Horsfield, not Jeff. As already mentioned he was never a Reds player which, given his goal scoring record, was a pity. I like big, strong centre forwards like him.

David Speedie was a good prospect who didn’t impress Allan Clarke enough - he was shipped out to Darlington for a paltry £5,000 and then his career blossomed. You don’t get international caps and play for the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool if you’re no good.

Jordan Rhodes followed his Dad Andy to Ipswich so we missed out on a future talent. Maybe it’s not too late - maybe there’s one more good season in him?

The story I've heard from David Speedie is that it was a personality clash between him and Clarke. Speedie was basically a right gobby little too-hat and Clarke had enough of him. Particularly as it was at a time Clarke was bringing in a new era of professionalism to the club.

Sounds about right when you look at his later disciplinary problems. It’s a shame though that he wasn’t developed for longer so we could have got a better transfer fee.

It is, I agree, but we can't have any complaints about those amazing times.
