Maybe I'm being optimistic but I think we've got a great manager in the making. I like his work ethic and discipline. We've certainly changed in terms of our style especially when we attack.
I'm really hoping he understands we need a new defence cos conceding 75 goals is ridiculous.
If the club are letting conor choose his signings then I'm confident.

 

As much as I like Conor, and was happy with his promotion from coach to full time head poncho I'm not going to get too excited about what he can possibly achieve
We can't lose sight of who's holding the purse strings and their way of running things.The boards ambition and the fans ambition are miles apart and on different pages when it comes to what they see as a successful season to what most fans do
The last head coach who I was totally sold on, got excited about and at the time thought would take us to dizzy heights fizzled out like a wet squib on bonfire night , whilst doing more arm than good

Speculation on who's coming in, creates interesting conversations, unfortunately as we saw in January, the reality of it all leaves a distaste and distrust in those in charge to get it right and proves how bad things have got
on Grove street.
Yes I think Conor will have a great career in management, but like many before him at Qakwell, I feel he will be let down by the powers that be and many a promise will be broken
Hope I'm proven wrong but I don't think I will be.
Guess time will tell.

Is that true? I dont think so. They literally sacked Collins a game before play offs. Their ambitions are top 6 and ultimately promotion, just like ours. Now I can agree they've been incompetent in regards of how to manage that this season however.

Their actions don't meet what they spout, look at January, was Rodrigues a signing of a team looking to kick on?
As for sacking Collins the timing was a pathetic gamble, we failed to beat Northampton and squeezed in to the playoffs.

Didn't they say Judge us by our actions in the summer of 2022, 4th, 6th, 12th

But hand on heart, do you genuinely think they're content with league one midtable? Considering they're losing 10 million a season? I can understand why they tried to be frugal in Jan considering the losses, however it has massively backfired. I'm in a minority im aware, but they got it almost perfect first season they took over, only lost out on promotion due to **** refs in final. Last season they showed their ambition by keeping Kane, Williams, Cadden & especially Cole when he was in red hot form in Jan instead of selling them when it was their last opportunity to get fees for any of them. And then at the start of this season forking out a million in transfer fees on DKD, Gent and others. Now with high earners off the wage bill, another installment of transfer fee money coming in, and more than likely selling assets, I expect them to provide a good window for Conor. If it goes tits up next season, then I'll have certainly changed my mind bud.

It's insane to think the board are not as ambitious as the fans. They have everything to gain, and nothing to lose, only their money. The only assets they have are the club. So what possible reason, would they not want success. I believe the strategy has failed on the process side. but others at the club should also take the blame. If we do not perform next season, I wouldn't be surprised if they offload some of those responsible. Eg Mladen. (And Conor if we fail dismally)
Nareev, I think is a little naive, (no pun intended) in his thinking that he has every confidence in his management team. Or as more than likely. Unwilling to say anything derogatory in public as would most.
If we were able to sell the club to another consortium. It would be at a knockdown price. No one would offer over over the odds if a business is failing. (Then there is the stadium and surrounding assets to consider, owned by the council)
Imo, i think, given what Conor has said in recent times. Is that they've released the reins a little. He's been in contact with who he wants to join the club more than any other manager, (Head coach) has been able to over the last 6 yrs or so. Not having to go to the spreadsheet as much. Tis why I believe, Mladen, may become surplus to requirements. If Conors choices, not the spreadsheet join.
I don't think you are in the minority at all, re the board wanting success btw.

Both the board and Hourihane have taken a big risk. The board if this experiment which it is appointing a coach with zero experience fails I'm not sure where we will end up. Hourihane if he crashes and burns his coaching career could be over very quickly. He must have been given enough reassurance for him feel he has a chance and for them to see something in him they feel he can succeed in spite of his lack of experience. Let's hope they are both right and third thing that we can provide is patience as there's too much work to be done in one summer.

 

Are we really a failing business though should be the question.
Yes in a ‘real’ world losing millions every year is the very definition of failing, BUT this is a football club, our losses don’t appear to be any/much worse than many other clubs around us in the league. League positions(where we think should be) are about opinions and can change very quickly.
I agree about the ground but then it could be argued that makes us a cheaper option to purchase and more money could be put into the team, a potential buyer might also view it as buy a cheap plot of land nearby, rebuild and then with some success the returns could be much bigger.

 

The number of experienced coaches who haven't failed somewhere and would come to Barnsley must be vanishingly small. With a few exceptions there are only 2 types of managers - those that have been sacked and those that are going to be sacked.

I think that whether we're right or wrong as fans to expect certain things. I think that our expectations do differ from what these owners expect.

There's very, very few coaches in world football who hasn't failed somewhere in this day and age mate. Even the elite managers

 

He’s making all the right noises but it all depends on how he’s backed, which is what concerns me. Don’t trust the owners to get the players he wants and get a feeling their excuse will be lack of season tickets sold.

They are not football people and they are not good at what they are doing!!.
So as a result, I also think I have to question what their intentions and ambitions are. And if they even know what that actually means.

 

Heard from friend of mine who sits in club 64, we're being taken over by an American investor, don't know how true this is. Make of it what you will, but he is quite well in with the club

 

Whilst a reduction may be a massive disappointment. (The loss of sales will be a hindrance and unwelcome and not good for planning the budget) But for every 1000 Sales lost we may be looking at somewhere around £300k net I'd imagine, or even less. (Not including spending at the ground)
Given they were losing a minimum of £600k per month at one stage. Every penny still counts as they say.
Even If, as some suspect on here, only 5k season ticket holders renew. That would be circa £1.2 pa if I'm anywhere near right. Or £100k pm. Over and above losses as if everyone renewed.

 

Fair enough mate, I certainly agree they're not football people. Its why I was glad they got in a director of football and made it separate from CEO, problem is Mladen was the guy they hired and so far its been a disaster

I'm excited, too, for the first time in quite a while there's some optimism buzzing around and I like Conor's approach thus far. The key thing for me is that fans don't expect miracles, and it will take some time and effort to rebuild a squad as disjointed as our current one. Both the board and the fans need to give Conor time and space to show what he can do, and then who knows...
