Rodney, watched a bit of the Rochdale v Southend last night as it was more entertaining than Charlton v Wycombe. Impressed by Devante Rodney, different level I know, but has played at Port Vale (12 goals) and a spell at Walsall, 21 goals for Dale this season big strong, turn of pace, wonderful feet for his 1st goal, well taken pen for his 2nd, 12 months left on his contract, Northern lad. Get a bid in, could step up IMO
Yeah, awful having a one-in-three scoring record, sheer pace and all on a free transfer. The kind of recruitment we need right now.
I never got all the criticism. Lazy? Not a bit of it. He was there to score goals and he did that job very well. Scandalous waste of talent sitting on the bench all season at the Hawthorns.
Remember the commentator on one of the away matches last season kept saying Devante Rodney every time Cole touched the ball.
Agree, liked the ball in behind to run onto did Cole to use his pace, we often just lumped it which is not his game, we've missed the fox in the box poacher this season, wasn't his game to make things happen like DKD can proper poacher is cole
Calling players lazy is largely a ‘ go to’ or default criticism with some of our fans, including on here. I think most of the time they have to criticise and when they can’t justify their criticisms, or give praise because they’ve criticised previously they just call them lazy, or not trying downed tools etc, etc.
It’s impossible to call someone lazy with his pace with any justification. I suppose some people think that if a player doesn’t do every job on the field, during a match, then he is obviously bone idle. That’s been levelled at Humphreys this season as well. I don’t agree with that either.
all the ‘downed tools’ criticism is nonsense, we were just out of form and so was he, still managed 18 league goals (same as the lord and saviour keillor dunn)
Yeah I say it all time. Its so incredibly rare a pro footballer actually downs tools. Just off form is all.
I was at this game. Both Rochdale strikers, Bird and Rodney were both decent and I thought Hopper up front for Southend was outstanding, a shame he messed his career up by being one of the Leicester City Thailand gangbangers.
He had to settle for watching Woodrow play with his shorts during his first season with us, Duff came and showed faith in him and hey presto. I wonder how many players we judge on just a handful of games and never get the best out of them.
