If that happened in isolation & there wasn’t decades of murders & mistreatment the other way that preceded it then I would agree but it didn’t.

Maybe agree a number of peace deals, all broken by the other side; concede land for the other side to live in, so long as they do peacefully; and request return of the hostage, request refused?

I've existed for 43 years. This argument over land (and religion) has been going on for millennia. It's far too complex for a numpty like me.

But putting thousands of years of history to one side, what is currently taking place is a genocide. An obliteration of a group of people. Hospitals are being destroyed. Refugee camps have been carpet bombed. Drones are murdering innocent children in the streets. Thousands of trucks containing food, clothing and medical supplies are at the border with Jordan, unable to get in. And the country I live in is complicit with all this.

I think context is important here. Tbf, Lineker has been treading a fine line for some time, re. impartiality. Regardless of whether or not I agree with his personal views, as a Beeb flagship presenter (and highest earner), it's naive to expect what he says publicly to go untested. He's in an incredibly elevated position and in today's world of social media, everything gets scrutinised. He knows this. His comments were one thing, but twinned with the rat emoji, I can see why the Beeb finally felt his position was untenable. I know he's apologised, but unfortunately words have consequences. That has to apply to left, right and centre. I think after the recent interview he did, where he said he felt the Beeb may have wanted him to leave, this latest thing was probably the final straw.

For the record, before anyone loses their mind and calls me a genocide sympathiser, I totally condemn all acts of violence against innocent civilians, whether that's Hamas or the IDF. I'm purely talking about something old jug ears said on social media.

We've been complicit since 1917 with the Balfour declaration. Don't get me wrong, everyone needs a home. But they've (Israel) have been systematically eradicating the Palestinian people since then. Obviously the conflicts in that region pre-date 1917, but that's when this "modern" genocide started. Just look at the maps for God's sake. Palestine was eroded over decades and their people forced to live in smaller and smaller areas. Their food, power and other utilities are governed by Israel. Their movement is governed by Israel. They are slaughtered, men, women and children, by Israel.

A lot of people like to think this started on the 7th of October 2023, as that suits their narrative and agenda. It's absolutely disgusting. So is Hamas, but Israel equally so.

P.S - My message wasn't at you specifically YT, I just quoted your message as it relates to my first sentence or two.

I do agree that you can criticise Israe and its government's actions l without being anti semitic. However, he shouldn't have retweeted something with the rat emoji, of course after what happened in Nazi Germany that is seen as anti semitic and rightly so.
I'll miss Gary on bbc football though, think he was a good presenter and I love a good pun. As long as Wayne Rooney doesn't take his place though!

Over millennia, there have been despicable acts by Arabs and Jews, to each other, over land that both called home for hundreds and hundreds of years, at differing times. But I don't disagree. In modern times, in the most recent century or so, it appears very one-sided and the UK has its fingerprints all over it. Following WWII, you also had the UK handing over India, and bringing about Pakistan. And later, came Bangladesh. And the Kashmir issue still causes conflict to this day.

It's sad to be honest. That this country we were born in, has had so much influence in the world and now seems content to watch Israel wipe the Palestinian people off the planet.

This is a thread about a now 'former' BBC employee speaking out against Israel. It clearly wasn't wise of him to do so in the manner which he has. He's apologised so I imagine he knows it was wrong. But how is that the main news? And not the atrocities he talks of?

Half a million people protested in London at the weekend, a pro-Palestine rally. The BBC barely mentioned it. But a few thousand rock up in tractors, joined by grifters like Farage and Clarkson and it's non-stop bulletins. Absolute disgrace. Impartiality my anus.

I dont think Lineker would have apologised at all, unless he knew he ****** up. The man usually holds his grounds on his beliefs, in saying that, I do believe he had genuinely no idea about the rat emoji, and so a simple apology should be enough. But we know that will never suffice in the social media age.

Not to delve down rabbit holes or degenerate into conspiracy theory. But it is alleged, by growing numbers of people and groups, some irrational of course, but some not. That Israel has effectively infiltrated a lot of Countries in the world, using blackmail and other nefarious tactics to push it's own ends.

Ask yourself, why does a little Country in the middle east get such support from most Western nations? Especially the US. Israel literally attacked a US Navy warship and tried to blame it on Egypt decades ago. They never severed ties. Israel is the only Country that is actively allowed to lobby in the US Congress. Why? Who knows.

We see instances time and time again where Israel is treat with kid gloves by Western governments. There has to be more to it that simply "they're oppressed".

Perhaps. But the way Countries excuse Israel's behaviour, including our own, is far more complex than simply "wanting influence".

The West doesn't really need Israel for that. We have, or can have, open productive dialogue with most Countries in the region. I assume all they want us to do is not pillage their nations without fair recompense - which we appear to struggle with for some reason - see Iraq, Lybia, Syria, Afghanistan etc

But yeah, you're right, but I suggest that "wanting influence" constitutes around 5% if the reason we treat Israel the way that we do in the West.

I'm glad you're recognising the damage done by Israeli far right settlers taking Palestinians homes and Israeli troops kidnapping Palestinians off the streets before jailing and torturing them.

Over the years Israel have managed to convince the whole world that zionism and Judaism are one in the same but it most certainly isn't the case. Corbyn was hounded out for standing against the apartheid and oppression which was being inflicted on the Palestinian people by the Zionist regime and the last 18 months has proven just how right he was. Its great to see Gary lineker and others calling this out for what it is..

    Free Palestine.

Amusing that Laura Kuenssberg who works in the actual media team can say whatever she wants. Her bias is clear
