I think he's a decent presenter and I'll miss watching him especially euros and world cups. I always liked andy gray and richard keys on sky they were brilliant but one got sacked and the other jacked. Then you have jamie carragher who spits at a girl out of his car and keeps his job. Strange world.
Donald Trump thinks Palestine is free. In that once he’s helped Israel clear out the undesirables he gets it for nothing.
" Following WWII, you also had the UK handing over India, and bringing about Pakistan. And later, came Bangladesh. " Tbf YT, the discussions over how to decide the future had been going on for several years, the various parties involved could not agree. Its easy to criticise Attlee for pulling the date of leaving forward, but there seemed no prospect of an agreed solution.
Baffled by this story. Lineker was finishing MOTD after next weekend anyway. Next year's FA/World Cups were a long way off, and he was always going to speak his mind once out of the weekly MOTD routine. So nothing new/surprising about this. Still, good story, eh?
I wasn’t criticising per se. More of an observation that we have played a big part in the makeup of these nations and yet now it appears we are happy (in the case of Palestine) to watch it be exterminated.
I don’t know about the rest of the world but it’s scary how quickly they bought influence in the Labour Party.
Following the split of the Ottoman Empire after WWI Britain definitely betrayed the hopes of an independent Arab nation in the areas previously controlled by Turkey, as Lawrence of Arabia, who had led the Arab forces in kicking Turkey out of much of the area lamented afterwards - "yet when we achieved and the new world dawned, the old men came out again and took our victory to re-make in the likeness of the former world they knew." Britain didn't do a good job after that, but was held responsible by the League of Nations to square the circle of Arab nationalism and the desire for a Jewish State, Britain was broke and eventually under attack from both sides, especially the Arab uprising in the 30's and then the Jewish campaigns following the end of WW2. The partition of India wasn't really down to the British, they had proposed a single state solution but the Muslim party refused to accept a single state solution and insisted on the creation of Pakistan, the subsequent genocidal wars between India and Pakistan and then Pakistan Bangladesh can't really be blamed on Britain.
My post didn’t blame any genocidal wars on Britain. I referenced this country’s fingerprints on that particular region and stated my sadness about the situation in Palestine.
Whats wild is that a country of 10 million has a group in Parliament called "Labour Friends of Israel" which up to a 1/3 of the Labour party MPs are members of. Interesting also how Priti Patel, for example, had unauthorised meetings with the Government of Israel which breached the Ministerial Code, causing May to request Patel's resignation as International Development Secretary.
The Co op have now decided to stop selling Israeli produce. Well done. However, at the general meeting where this was passed, Jonathan Turner chairman for ‘UK Lawyers for Israel’ urged the Co op to withdraw the motion. He stated that the lack of food in Gaza could be beneficial to the population as it “may increase average life expectancy in Gaza, bearing in mind that one of the biggest health issues in Gaza prior to the current war was obesity.” Meanwhile the UN reckon 14,000 babies could starve to death in the next 48 hours. Words fail me.
Hmm. May sound very noble. However it’s worth remembering that the Co-op also partnered with the Abu Dhabi Group and Mansour, to secure funding for Co-op Live in Manchester. So their high horse is on shaky ground really.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cy9vr10n732t Get ready for Netanyahu and his rhetoric on this event. Sadly this will get significant more coverage than the war crimes he and his cronies are committing and the massive suffering they are inflicting on the Palestinian civilians.
