Like your tongue in cheek comment Baz as I know you rate him. So do I.
If we'd have played him in his rightful position and not defensive. Prior to blackpool away. ( He'd only played 4 of the first 11 league games. ) He would have more than likely scored a couple more than the 11 he got.
If he'd got all the qualities of top tier player. (That some seem to think he should have) He'd be playing in the Premier. As would all our players.
    Another comment.
'Great going forward but **** in the tackle.' What do folk expect. Yes we want players to be at the top of every aspect of their game. But reality says different.
If Danny Nardiello had more qualities when with us. he'd have been top tier no doubt about it. Turned up for the big games. Plodded through others.

It doesn't bother me if others don't rate him. I'm certain there's been other players over the years that Russell's critics have rated, but I didn't.

He needs to be played in an advanced role, with few defensive duties, that is clear. The balance of our midfield was all wrong for most of the season, including playing Connell forward. It is pretty simple to put a team together that utilises what is required. We certainly need more pace in a high press back line, but Russell behind a striker, or out wide is a no brainer.

Given the ineptitude of the vast majority of our squad very odd to dig at someone who clearly layer well and made important contributions.

11 goals in a dreadful team does though.

To be fair his passing completion was often better than other more "popular" midfielders.

Russell was best midfielder at the club last season Phillips started well but faded after january I think he wanted out. Connell was consistently poor throughout.

Jon clearly has his strengths and his weaknesses. That’s why he is a current third division player.

He has a lot of technical ability and he’s added an end product this season. He was probably our most improved player this season. He’s not great off the ball and even if he does come away with good tackling stats, you only have to watch the game to see he’s not a tackler.

Football fan doesn't rate football player shock.

He's had a good 3 months and imho his goals have masked his overall performances for us in the last three seasons.

If we can sell him, IMHO we should.

Yeah, I’m fed up with players covering up their shortcomings with scoring goals. Take DKD, he can’t head a ball to save his life but gets away with it because he gets some goals

Same with Phillips all he does is score and assists. Dkd can't head and Russell can't tackle and his goals mask this.

Similar to Jimmy Greaves, he was wánk, couldn't tackle for toffee, totally masked by his goal contribution.
