Deffo Baz, I remember mi dad(he’s a Town fan)taking me to watch Huddersfield early 70s when Pierce played for them. Life’s too short and we are only here for a good look around mate!
He lived up Ardsley and used to run Ardsley House Sunday League team when I played. We were playing Barugh Green in a supplementary trophy semi-final on the Sunday after Barnsley played Liverpool in the League Cup at Anfield. I was at Anfield early when Barnsley were having a pre match kick about with Pierce in goal. Gary spotted me behind the fence and came over and said " I hope you're fit for Sunday, big game this one". It seemed so surreal that here were the reds playing the European Champions on their own patch and he came over and asked about a Sunday League game. RIP Gary a great bloke.
So sad.A nice fella and a great keeper. My stand out memory is throwing him a sweet away at Brentford before kick off.RIP.x
Back in the days when we could sign top players with experience at a high level. Gary was certainly up there with the best that I’ve ever seen in our green jersey. So sorry to hear this news.
Great keeper! Remember he coached a local school side we played against - he happily signed all our autographs after the game. All I could find was the back of a *** packet but he still signed it! RIP
