Probably not, but he is quoted as being one, and I'm assuming Wiki doesn't do any fact checking and just quotes other sources.
My favourite Chien Lee story is the time he came into our office and briefly said hello, with his wife (Linda, I think). I asked how he was and he said he was hungry, could I sort him some lunch (it was a Saturday matchday). I told him there was Oakwell Sandwich bottom of Grove Street and recommended the sausage and egg butty. When he thanked us, and left the room, my colleague called me a wally and said “he was expecting you to go and get him food, he didn’t want a recommendation.” Later on, before kick off, got talking to one of the groundsmen and he says: “saw Chien Lee int sarnie shop earlier, that was random.” I asked what he ordered and it was indeed, sausage and egg butty. Twice.
I took the $9.1 billion as being Neerav's family wealth. I struggle to see how the presenters would have chosen to present it otherwise.....
Think he probably is, technically (talking about net worth rather than cash) I just don’t think it actually means anything with regards to the club and never has…
The company he co-founded sold 80% of its shares for 1.3 billion USD in 2015. It all depends on how many shares he had, what his remaining shares are worth now and what he invested in after, all of which is not public knowledge as far as i can tell. Not sure how you can be so certain. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he was technically a billionaire with things he invested in.
It's scary how crap we are if those figures are correct. Makes you question what they're doing here. Are they all footballing sadists?
From what I can gather Neerav has stocks in the family business's of adhesives and solvents/sealants (worth $14B) Providing I have the right family obviously. As per corporate shareholdings filed for March 31, 2025, people matching Neerav Parekh publicly holds 2 stocks with a net worth of over Rs 661.5 Cr. £57+M. He may have other business involvements ? I picked up on this. I understand the Parekh family, who's son Neerav has significant control at Barnsley FC, a Third Division football club in the English Football League, derive a lot of their wealth from the family firm Abahjay Trade and Commerce Private Investments Ltd, with various interests including glue and solvent manufacture, making them considerably richer than most other families in India. Neerav is a shareholder in the family firm. The company Chairman Madhukar ($3.6B worth) Parekh is not linked directly to Neerav as in son. (The former has 2 daughters. But there is a family connection it appears) Chien Lee. Was the main investor b4 being pushed out during the conman debacle, over ownership. Estimated to be worth Billions. (Given when he took over the club the consortium was supposedly worth £9.1B not him personally ) He has many fingers in many pies. Rather than invest money in players he went down the moneyball strategy with Billy Bean and imo was a disaster at every club he took ownership of. All in the main, failures. In fact blaming Conman for his mismanagement and personal fine at the ownership inquiry. Which the present board instigated. Business finances are not my fortè . But I think that's the gist of it.
Thank you for that Hooky feller but don't forget an ex BBSer spent £2 to come to the conclusion Lee for example didn't have anything and the crazy thing is some believed him.
