Very impressed with security last night. There was 4 fights in and around where we were sat and security was straight in no messing hard but fair and if anyone tried to struggle or fight back they were dealt with even harder. One thing I learnt last night was never ever allow drinking in the arena during football matches. The amount of people falling over down the steps and between the seats was ridiculous.
If you can't take it don't drink it.

Its the same everywhere nowadays Brian, boxing, races, music gigs, some folk just want to get absolutely wasted beforehand.

Do you know if it was between locals Or with ‘visitors’ as there seemed to be decent followings from Wales, Chorley and Dundee.? Partially overhead a conversation in Tesco’s earlier about fighting in the ‘square’ yesterday.

Disagree on booze. The vast majority of folk who'd go to Oakwell for a 3pm kick off wouldn't be out for a big session before a game. A couple of pints watching the match from your seat wouldn't harm anything and the minority it would would need to be dealt with.

Also comparing apples and pears - big spectacle yesterday, town was busy from 2pm and fight not on until 10pm meant it was always gonna be lairy. And with the trouble you get at boxing matches consistently it's double standards letting ale be served and then not letting football fans.

It's somewhat fashionable these days to throw beer, was at a gig last year in a seated section at the coop arena in Manchester it just became a free for all beer throwing contest.
I hear what you are saying most of us would be well behaved, unfortunately the minority turn into completely different animals with just a couple of pints.

    Not for me.

Agree. So why isn't ale banned at all public events then & just football? That's my point - it shouldn't be treated any different.

The fights round us seemed to be local lads who'd had too much ale.The couple of fights which happened on the pitch came from an area where Jeffers supporters were so probably rivalry.

I think the levels of violence, historical and still present are a factor, there's also potential for 2 rival sets of fans to keep consuming alcohol for another 2 hours potentially heightening agression and something kicking off inside/outside.
Football us renowned for violence, look at rugby union, 2 teams, 2 fans, no real segregation completely different supporters.

Football is far more territorial and has more potential flashpoints.

Yep see it all the time mate, went to a gig Friday, folk falling allover place generally annoying folk who've paid good money to enjoy a gig.
Can't make any sense why folk get in that state that can't even comprehend there's a gig on that they've paid to watch, just go out on p**s in that case it's surely much easier.

I get that. But there were 4 fights in the stadium yesterday - I guarantee there'd be uproar if it was a football match but its broadly accepted at boxing. Its just odd.

I'd never want ale to be allowed pitch side at football. On the few occasions it has been allowed, friendlies/beam backs etc, it's feckin annoying with people up and down going to the bar and toilets all the time.

You're probably right regarding the home seats.
I do more aways and there is a very large minority of folk who can barely walk, let alone watch a game in a vaguely civilised manner. It would be carnage to keep the ale flowing throughout.

I don't doubt that mate and that's why hopefully it isn't allowed, it's a growing problem within some sports, I'm not saying it's right but money talks and because these venues have always been licensed without major issues until the last decade then the financial impact would be massive, where as football is unaffected as it doesn't hold a license for consumption pitchside.

I'll happily go to any non league ground where beer is freely available. Even enjoy a pint missen during a game.
I wouldn't set foot in Oakwell if they allowed ale onto the terraces.

That would be part of the problem, people up and down to the toilet or up and down to the bar if beer was sold during the game

    Indeed :D

Some people spend more time in the concourse than watching the game.
