I've been to watch the Wwf wrestling quite a few times at the Sheffield arena, and I must admit the atmosphere is ace. You've got to be a real fan of course, and try to not take it too seriously. But I think it all started for us Uk fans didn't it, watching this sort of British wrestling on Itv. World of sport on Satdy afternoons, in between the footy half time and full time scores lol. With Dickie Davies or Fred Dineage presenting the show in the studio.
At Butlins Skeggy once, in about 79-80 I think, we saw our first ever like Uk wrestling show lol. And one of the main 'heels' bad characters that day, was called Catweazle. He had his pants pulled down at one point, and everything was on show for a few seconds lol. And with the brilliant reaction of the crowd, it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen as a kid.
And maybe if some of them were on my 'tabs', they might have been a bit more hardcore, like mad dog Shamrock lol.
Kendo Nagasaki is another I remember from the 70s. Wore a mask but no one ever managed to remove it. Also Adrian Street who was the glam rock wrestler of his day.
Adrian Street with his second, Gorgeous George. BTW, there is a Les Kellett v Adrian Street on youtube as well. Very funny too but not the same Yorkshire quality as the Brian Glover bout.
I went to Wombwell baths when I was a young un.My dad took me to see Sam Betts and his tag partner whos name I can't remember fighting the Pye brothers. ,one was called Dominic can't remember the other name.
