Plane Crash - this looks really bad

I've read elsewhere that the flaps were in take off position (footage isnt entirely clear apparently) but the emergency power system kicked in which apparently happens when both engines and the Auxiliary Power Unit fail or lose power.

 

Very strange as I believe the setting at take is slowly dialled back as aircraft build altitude. Not sure what redundancies are in place for confirming the position of the flaps are as set.

Im sure the investigation will get to the bottom of, air crash investigations are typically very thorough.

Its almost impossible to believe they would have hust set up wrong for take off.

 

I think it would be almost impossible to try and take off in one of the modern planes with incorrect flaps - if you look at youtube footage of 787 takeoffs, once the plane is in front and in the air of the camera thats filming the ground you can't really see the flaps set, wings look straight, so I don't think from the footage we have you can conclude about the flaps, you can obviously see landing gear is still down of course.

 

Just been reported that the guy sitting in seat 11A has survived. Exact words were "walked away".

 

He literally did, videos of him just walking down the street with barely a scratch on him

 

Not sure how you cope with knowing that you are the only survivor on that aircraft. Absolutely devastating news for the families of those who died, RIP

How on earth can 241 people have been killed and the 1 survivor has barley any injuries? You would have expected at least a couple of broken bones. Miraculous. The phycological effect will last for the rest of his life unfortunately.

 

Yeah. It's just unbelievable, and something no expert will be able to explain no matter how hard they try

 

Sat next to a fire exit that smashed off as it hit the ground allowing someone to grab him out of the plane apparently.

That suggests to me that many others will have survived the initial impact and died in the subsequent fire

 

Veet possible as it looked to be relatively (for an aircraft) slow speeds. The video is have seen looks like a fireball on impact though.
Hard to imagine the horror of some people's final moments.

 

His insurance company might have a view!

I'm going for a very early guess. Number 2 engine failed after v1 (the point that the pilots have to commit to take off regardless) and they accidentally shut down number 1 engine meaning they were powerless.

Supporting evidence:
Survivor reported lights flickering and going off. Happens if all power is lost.
Survivor reported a large bang. RAT (back up wind turbine that comes out of the plane to provide power to essentials) being deployed would make a thud noise as drops.
Angle of landing gear suggests a movement left to right early in the takeoff as would be expected if one engine wasnt working.

Its a decent guess based on the evidence. I often watch Air Crash Investigation (called Mayday on some countries)
The skill of air crash Investigators is mind blowing sometimes.
The moments after V1 are often the most crucial in any flight. There's so little time to take any corrective actions or refer to troubleshooting.
Its very rare for it to be one thing thst brings down an aircraft. Usually compounded failures with some human error thrown in along the way.
