https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...d-free-agents-to-group-when-pre-season-begins Nothing of note apart from no bids for our players yet. Mentions the two players we already know we've been linked to. Mentions bringing players in in the next few weeks which is obvious.
Same as the last few years then. Not expecting much, if any, movement in before some go out which could be well into August. Not looking likely that Humphrys will stay either after all this time.
Conor said at the end of the season that there are some fantastic players who'll be out of contract in the summer.Maybe thats the market he wants to tap into.
Thought the budget this season was to quote "Competative" shouldn't effect our ability to bring in free transfers, if that's the case. We are at the halfway point between season ending and starting in 6 weeks and we are hoping to bring in some players when pre season begins in 10 days, deary me.
Absolutely nothing wrong with using the free market well at this level. Out of contract players doesn’t mean they’re bad/unwanted players. How well we exploit the free market will probably define our season.
Can't expect owt much yet, a lot will still be on their jollies and will want to weigh up their options before signing anything ( as you would) and if there are good players on the free market that suit our needs , why not use it?
Also doesn’t mean it’s the cheap option either as free agents tend to get higher wages with no transfer fee to pay.
One thing conor does have i'd imagine is enough respect in the game to make us a little more attractive to possible out if contract targets rather than an obscure foreign coach.
If we end up like previous seasons and players take until November to get acclimatised, let's just remember that, before we tear Conor a new one mid September
I think that's the market everyone is tapping into.. hench we haven't got one over the line yet. Wasn't it you or Archy maybe I read saying only one club in L1 (Plymouth) had spent any money out of sixty plus deals..? Said it before, we're all after the same players mate..
In any other business, this is when the owners might inject some capital, to freshen up the stock to make their offer more attractive to customers and stem the decline. Sadly, in football, with the vast majority of Clubs in a financial mess I'm not sure that approach would work. It needs more Clubs to go bust. Those in charge of the professional game need to grow a pair so that Owners can't keep failing to pay their staff. It should be two strikes and you're out. It should be blatently obvious that Chansiri can't be a fit and proper person to run a club given his recent history. Then we had the saga of Reading FC and the EFL extending deadlines so that they could oust Yongge. Until there are some very large failures the game won't come to its senses.
I'm not worried yet. Players contracts don't end until the end of June, so the likelihood is, targets we've identified might be weighing up their options. The article mentions we're interested in O'Connor from Lincoln. I'd imagine he's got a whole host of clubs interested in him, so probably won't be rushing to make any decisions. The question is, do we hold out for target number 1, or do we move onto the next option. It's interesting that we are still looking at a keeper. That suggests one of Flavell or Jackson could be going out on loan. In regards to Humphrys, I hope we've set a deadline for him (presumably the end of his contract) so that we can progress with other options. I'm confident we'll have at least 3 players announced by the first friendly.
