Struber takes over at Bristol City

Interesting appointment - good luck to him. He got sacked by Cologne last season two games from the end, and then they got promoted to the Bundesliga. I bet he’d rather be playing Bayern Munich next season than Wrexham and the rest.

Good luck to him, I thought he was an exceptional manager and had an unbelievable ability to get players running through walls for him. Possibly one of our most underrated coaches ever.

Outstanding Barnsley manager for me. He got many players performing far better than they have before or after.

It was an odd period. Pre lockdown, we looked better under Struber than Stendel, though not sufficient enough to be in with a chance of staying up. From memory, we had about 12 points to make up from 14 games. Post restart, we looked like one of the best sides in the league. Even then, we were still 6 points a drift with 2 games to go. It was remarkable what happened that season.

I think Val, and the signings of Helik, Morris and Dike took us to the next level.

 

The most emotional coach I knew. Good and bad. Similarly, players loved or hated him. Super intelligent and the sessions he’d put on were so clever. You’d be watching something and failing to completely grasp the idea behind it. Then there’d be a scenario in-game and you’d be “ahhh, got it.”

It’s a great job at a good club. Only fear for him is the fanbase. They reached the playoffs unexpectedly and now there’ll be unrealistic expectations. And he won’t react well to negativity.

Any Bristol City fans reading the BBS for opinions should read that to see why he's well thought of. He gave us some good moments in horrible times.

Could go either way. Did a good job at Oakwell. I wish him luck. He was followed by the best manager we have had in modern times, so is understandably a bit overlooked.

 

What he did with the players available was exceptional. I don't think we've had a better coach at introducing players to the first team and making them better. He made some brave calls during his short stay and the final game against Brentford was pure joy. Considering everything else that was going on at the time it was a great experience to watch that team develop and ultimately survive.

I think you are right. I really didn't rate him that much at the time eg. playing Ritzmaier too much, but looking back he did an incredible job. Oh and that famous interview !!!

 

And it was this very weekend 5 years ago, under Struber, when the Covid hit season was resurrected.
Its the only time of course, that we've ever seen the Efl season, played in late June and July.

 

Good luck to him, he was a good manager for us, kept us up and we got paid for it with the compensation.

He did ok when season restarted but we were dead and buried before Covid hit….we would have definitely gone down the football was absolutely shiit just before lockdown, lets not kid ourselves and if Wigan weren’t penalised we would have been relegated choose what

This is really harsh. We were in such bad shape because Stendel took 9 points from 16 games. In the 21 games under Struber we took 25 from 21 and won 3 of the last 5 before lockdown.
