The goalie from Palace who Bolton and us were after might be a bit easier to sign now after Bolton signed one of Chelsea's 50 keepers on loan.
Was that the lad on loan at Wimbledon? Don't know much about him, tbh I'd like us to just sign a keeper and build around that rather than this chopping and changing with loan keepers for the past 3 years, a loan with first option is fair enough otherwise just go and sign one, you get away with the age a bit more on keepers.
I agree with what you say.The lad Goodman seems to have a decent pedegree and more experiance than our last 3 keepers put together.I wouldn't have any qualms if it was him.Personally I'd prefer a Heinz Muller type keeper who could demand his area and be a little intimidating to opponants forwards.
Get the feeling Humphrys will be waiting about to get the best deal at the last minute again. Don’t think any championship sides will be rushing out to get him so possibly waiting for a team in this division to pay silly money. Hopefully I’m wrong though because even though he had a poor time in the middle of the season, he has a bit of quality and spark. I think playing left wing under Hourihane would help too. In terms of signings, there’s definitely some good out of contract players available that we should be talking to, even if we have missed out on some already. I would prefer a permanent keeper to be starting for us but if we bring in a good loanee, I won’t be complaining too much. Still wouldn’t surprise me of Gauci is loaned in again. No panic stations for me just yet. It would’ve been nice to bring in some early doors but I’d rather get the right ones in than rush and get wrong ones.
Conor knows exactly what he’s getting himself into. He’s no fool. He knows budgets will be minimal and we’ll likely have to sell a few. More players now are letting their contract run out, as they can then get better wages when signing on.
Fair point but shouldn't his meticulous attention to detail and sheer hard graft avoid us wasting the first quarter of a season.
They certainly shouldn’t but I’ve seen plenty of comments online that would hint some are sweating over our dealings…
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...and-humphrys-goes-on-as-reds-return-next-week Humphrys one year contract option explained. Wanting around 5 million quid for DKD. Longest off season for 7 years to wait for our first signing.
So that’s us failed at the first phase of recruitment and not got the new players in for pre season that Conor wanted .
This needs some context I'm afraid. That side was a complete league 1 juggernaut, which required little to no strengthening. When we did sell Bradshaw, we replaced with the championship ready Woodrow. This season is in another dimension. Strengthening on a mass scale is required, with less than minimal funds. The chron also eludes to the fact we expected signings in by now, so we're either offering absolute peanuts (likely) or Mlad is doing a horrific job selling the club (although the club is a hard sell in its current state anyway), probably both in reality. 'Worrying times' Edit: FWIW, CH asked to make 5 'ready to go' signings of his own, who have to be for the here and now, not developmental, and then 3-5 recruitment team signings, but they can be developmental. Thats looking a stretch isn't it?!
Start back with preseason training next week and no head of performance in place. Oh dear. Looking like another fumble on the cards from the club again.
Yep clearly failed in our recruitment targets by the fact we haven't got any over the line.. Expect the 'slight of hand' focus next week on the 'as good as' new signings in Lopata Shepherd Lofthouse Dallas and Yoganathan.. to be pushed
