Watched the it on sky yesterday that squad and the current one miles apart , Davies Isgrove Hammill Brownhill Conner Fletcher Mawson etc , why has the malaise been allowed to happen .
It gets worse the season after we won 4-0 at Wolves and 3-1 at Villa.. the difference in trajectory as been remarkable
Never been more confident of us winning a game that really mattered. The semi against Walsall was an absolute walk over (even after Isgrove’s goal being chalked off which was clearly onside). We were superior in every department and Millwall could not live with us. That side were more than capable in the Championship.
Then Millwall went up afterwards, invested and stayed there ever since - we stagnated. To be fair they're losing 18m a year but we're losing 10 watching shïte football
Wolves and Villa two teams to mention, but not long after, Brentford and Forest were 2 wins for different reasons. We were on a par with 2, and 'at least competing ' with the other two. Fc.uking light years behind now.
I’m still bitter about that Isgrove ‘offside goal’. Once it became obvious that he wasn’t a goal scorer I backed him to score in virtually every home game that season. Everyone around me in the East Stand knew about it, and when he scored we all went crackers. Then it was disallowed and they all thought it was hilarious. Then someone texted to say they were watching on Sky and that it was clearly onside. I was steaming! Needless to say, I didn’t back him to score at Wembley
I'm confident we would have battered Brentford in the playoff final under Val if we'd beaten Swansea.
When we won 3-1 at villa that was one of our only wins after conor left. Think we also beat Blackburn at home and Rotherham away.
Sadly we faced Swansea who, under Steve Cooper, seemed to have the measure of us. Beat us twice in the league games and the first play-off game. The final encounter, a 1-1 draw, was too late to make a difference.
We had a very good side for those 18 months or so. In 8 years since (coincidentally the time these jokers have been running us) we’ve gone rapidly downhill apart from the one season under Val and the Stendel promotion season. I honestly don’t think we’ll ever get back to the top half of the Championship again. It feels like a lengthy stay in the lower leagues like the 60s and 70s is on the cards now. New owners with good investment and a proper plan are the only thing that can change that.
Simple incompetence, first by whoever advised the Crynes on the sale to Lee and Conway then Conway thinking he knew what footballer looked like then proving to everybody that he didn't with the best transfer window ever. But worst of all the current set of Muppets in the board room and the inept minions they've employed to run the club who are taking the incompetence to another level.
I'm still sour that we,typically, ended the B teams promotion bandwagon. Burnley, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Brentford... instead it was the Barnsley B team - Luton
Loved that team. By the end of that season we were a Rolls-Royce in a league of Cortinas. Miwaw didn't have a chance on the day. I knew it beforehand, after tanking Wigan on last day, then easily rolling over Walsall. Then to continue that same form for half a championship season, then.....the rest is history. Last BFC team that properly had my heart.
In fairness, I think we were doing well again, just a few years ago, and this lot had made a good choice with Micky Duff. And coming after the appalling Schopp/Asbaghi relegation season, I'm amazed we got as far as we did that season. But he walked away of course, and although that wasn't their fault. Well, its just been an absolute farce since then. Sell off the crown jewels, and replace them with a few tinpots here and there. And continually keep on throwing money down the pan!.
