Yes, I was staying with my sister and remember my brother-in-law missing the match to go and see U2. Pretty sure I heard him on the phone trying to flog his ticket so he could go to the match though!

I was about 14 year old and for some reason remember the crowd booing as Danny played a ball through on the deck that went out for a throw in not long after a previous one had gone through to the goalie with nobody near it, some old boys around me saying that the passes were right but our team were 2 yards behind him in their heads. Danny probably didn't realise how bad we were and I think I'm right in saying he shipped a lot out when he took over. I'd like to think him being 2 yards ahead influenced the likes of young Eaden and Liddell in matches and on the training pitch. It's just conjecture but maybe that short spell with his boots on gave the lads that little extra to the great work ethic Whinny instilled in them. As influencial as his spell in the dugout.

Yeah it was a hammering at Lutaarn lol, and he was sent off. And this was a rare defeat for us there, in those days.

Yeah that's all very interesting Jack, but that was 2 years later, in season '95 lol.

Yeah I also reckon it did, and Viv surely deserves more credit at least, than criticism.
For me it was disappointing when he chose to leave, and join Brian Robson at Middlesbrough. But as things turned out eventually with Danny, he probably made the best decision.

The season was admittedly a disappointing struggle, even when we went on an amazing run of 7 wins in 9 games.
We were then dragged back into a relegation scrap, and this home win against Wolverhampton late on in the season, was a massive 3 points.
And horrible commentary again lol, was it Dave Copping who did those. :D

And this is during that run of 7 wins in 9 games, when we hammered the Newcastle wannabes, Sunderland. :D

Weird how time works. The Viv season seems like a million years ago. U2 releasing Achtung Baby and Zooropa seems like last week.

Agree with a lot you say there mate but for me Allan Clarke was by far the most important signing in the clubs history. He turned the club around from top to bottom, without Clarke initiating an incredibly successful period for the club I doubt the headier days of the Premier League would have ever happened.

Ricky Otto was really hyped then wasn't he, but I think he eventually disappeared just a few years later.
We lost a lot of home games that season, but at least we kept the season going with some good away wins. And this all sounds very familiar compared to today, doesn't it lol.

Remember Viv was our top scorer early on lol, didn't he score in our first 3 home games.
And speaking of goal scorers, what actually happened with Ian Bryson ?.
We signed him from the Blunts in the summer, and he was gone in November!. He spent even less time with us, than Stuart Rimmer.
