Barnsley Football Club is pleased to announce a contract extension for Connor Barratt.

The 21-year-old extends his stay at Oakwell until 2027, with a further year option in the Club’s favour.

Mladen Sormaz, Sporting Director, said: “We are happy to have Connor commit his future at the Club following an impressive start to life at Oakwell.

“He has delivered strong performances on a consistent basis for our U21s and when called upon in the first team, along with his international recognition with the Republic of Ireland.

“He is still a young player and we look forward to his development as a Barnsley player.”

Conor Hourihane added: “To see Connor extend his stay with the Club following a promising breakthrough season is great news for us all.

“He demonstrated calm and composed displays last season under difficult circumstances for a young player and we look forward to that developing.”

After penning his new deal, Barratt said, “I am delighted with the opportunity to be able to extend my stay and develop at this club and I’m excited for what the future holds.”

Everyone at Barnsley Football Club would like to congratulate Connor on his deal.

    Good stuff.

Slotted in last season and didn’t really look out of place.

Our better younger players seem to be on decent contracts now.

I’d prefer young Barrett at right-back to Bland.

Maybe not new signings but with Barrett signed up, Shepard coming back, possibly Lopata, Ranganathan and Lofthouse to come and a new goalie it could look very different already..if we only lose DKD and keep the rest its a CB with experience and a DKD replacement..The Koroma rumour is growing but the CB position is a problem..and ye, Barrett at RB and ditch MDG..Maybe we're closer than we think to forming a competitive side

It would be a relegation battle I fear with that set up. Are we really pinning our hopes on Shepard, Lopata and Barrett? Maybe we won't have a choice.

Well no, As I said a new CB and a DKD replacement at his level. if we'd bought Shepard from Bradford most on here would be applauding as top players coming to us from a level below used to be what we did. Are Lofthouse, Lopata and Barrett better than MDG, O"Keefe and the dross we brought in during January...Yes.
Also I included Phillips and Russell to stay who I think will be more effective under Houriane. So with a new Goalkeeper a possible new CB and retaining our better players (Except DKD) we could compete..I had hopes for Kwaili but he didn't impress at the end of last season. Jalo as a 1st teamer depending on injuries is another positive especially if we sign Koroma.

Shepherd? He was one of the top performers in the league below for a team who got promoted. It’s entirely plausible a team at our level would ‘pin our hopes’ on someone of that caliber.

If he wasn’t our player people would be saying it was a coup that we signed him.

Good news but not a shock. Youngsters who have barely played for the first team usually do sign back up.

Understandable mate but I'm thinking Shepard, Lopata and Lofthouse have all been playing regular games and had decent reviews. Yes Lofthouse dint shine on his return but never played in his favoured position, time to rectify that. My post assumes 2 good signings to replace DKD and Humphrys, if they don't happen then I'll be more in your camp..

If Connor gets them fit, that will be like a new signing, don't know what was happening under Clarke, but it didn't look like they could last 90 minutes, hence our ability to concede stupid late goals, probably down to tiredness as much as anything.

To be honest with you Lofthouse is one player I thought could be like a new signing, if played in his preferred position. Maybe he doesn't do the business in training, I don't know.

Well for me fitness should be absolute minimum. If you don't have the most talented players then there is absolutely no reason why you can't ensure you have one of the fittest teams.

Clarke still gets pelters but he still performed better with the squad than Hourihane. Big question marks still remain on Hourihane as a Head Coach, I hope he is a success.

Clarke was what he was - Lower league jobber, probably slack on the fitness training, slack on discipline, lazy vibe which rubbed off on the players, at least with Connor we have unknown potential, with Clarke we had known limitations and I can't for the life of me understand why he was appointed.

The next signing will say more about our intentions as a club than owt else we've done so far....here's hoping.
