We looked into both ideas for the original fan zone. In fact even now chinese companies send me spam emails trying to sell me inflatables Main problem then was we had to be able to take the thing down post match and that was impractical. Puntcures and lighteing were others. The large gazebos the trust bought were painful enough. The other suggestions seem like good ones. Not sure if such thing was considered though. Cost is the major constraint of course.
Surely it's more important to compare the pricing of the fanzone/stadium and the pubs a few minutes away who will be competing for business rather than comparing it with how much another football club charges. It might seem more logical to compare with other clubs but the reality is that if Sheffield Wednesday charge 50p a pint a Barnsley fan isn't going to go drink there. If the mount charge 2 quid a pint less than the fanzone then people will most likely choose to drink there instead.
I get all that and I agree that they aren't perfect but one thing to take into account is that you were running the fanzone with volunteers who understandably wanted to watch the match. There's no reason the club couldn't take it down if needed during the game. But I do agree it's not a perfect solution. The cost just really bugs me because other clubs manage to raise money with fans but bfc refuse. Tranmere supporters raised 350k towards the cost of their fanzone. We didn't bother asking fans
Ah there we go, first it was patronising now were onto better fan scenario, just because you are happy to pay more in refreshments doesn't mean everyone else has the same opinion as you and to question people's attitudes who differ, poor showing. I haven't renewed this season because I've got elderly parents that will need more of my time at weekends entailing a 90 mike round trip, I'll still go to a dozen home games and make half dozen away games, I've also lost the enjoyment and witnessing the state we've become after watching for 45 years.
I think if someone went with a good idea and with a plan attached regards crowd funding then the club would listen. We arent blessed with large numbers of available resources so getting some projects over line is often a stretch and lot of hard work from those involved. I think fans need to take onboard some realism for how quickly things can be changed at the club. Weve got a strategy of putting as much as possible into the football side. We can have loads of good ideas but unless theres capcity and resources to deliver it thats all it will remain.
You’d need to speak to the council to see if some of your proposals were viable for a start all part of what is needed to this sort of thing. Fair play to you throwing ideas at them though which is more than most do.
1) I can’t watch the match live anywhere else except for sitting in the cold, I can get a drink any number of other places. 2) Two hours in the cold is enough, I don’t want to double that, my fingers would drop off. The only deciding factors for me are that I need it to not be freezing and I would want to sit down. My own, extremely niche concern, is that at a minimum I need somewhere I can rest my drink as I cannot physically hold it for longer than a few seconds because of my Reynauds. I would consider using it in warm weather if I could guarantee that.
