Finally winning at QPR (twice in fact) and Hillsborough when of course, no paying fans were in attendance.
And being 2 nil up the season after at Loftus Road before conceding a last minute equaliser - was there for that one and the Rangers lads I met up with after said we'd be "up there again (top 6)". Lol.
Great thread this! Some very good suggestions already. I'll add Isaiah Rankin. Firstly, not playing him in case he scored as we couldn't afford his goal bonus. Secondly, loaning him to Grimsby, allowing him to play against us and him scoring in a 6-1 tonking, then cancelling his contract and paying him up immediately after.
I was living in London when that Cup run came around. Surrounded by Chelsea fans in a pub, all wanting a bet and offering a goal start or two...... Sheer bliss! :-D
I think that one belongs in the ‘Bare Faced Lies’ thread. In fact, didn’t he repeatedly tell you that his son has absolutely nothing to do with transfers that night too?
We did win away at Bristol City twice though, in the early-mid 90s. But how long had it been since we last won, away at QP.Rangers ?.
I had a very different pub experience when we played them in the PL ended up missing that game as was on holiday in the Algarve, walked into a pub with the red shirt on full of Chelsea, uncomfortable afternoon watching Dave Watson picking the ball out alot.
Loftus Road seems to be one of those grounds that have been a difficult venue for us historically. Oldham was another one. Rotherham was another I think, until we beat them in the Cup in 80/81. It's strange how that happens.
