Brentford can turn down a £62.5m bid... Can you imagine saying that only 17 years ago when they finished 14th in the bottom division in front of an average of 4,400.
It's worrying with small clubs like Brentford being spoken about with such big transfer fees because if they were to fall out of the top division, the Sky money goes and then they've to rely on the basics income wise - attendances etc.. they haven't got any. You only have to look at Bolton and Portsmouth who were playing European football not so long since to see how it can go wrong.
Remember classing Brentford and Bournemouth as small clubs a few years back compared to us . How times change
And the fairytale of Bournemouth getting promoted to the Premier League the first time and posting losses of a mere £38m.
Sure I read recently that Benham was looking to get more investment on board at Brentford so they can compete more with the bigger clubs on fees and wages. Franks gone to Spurs, so that will save them in chewing gum at least, but appointing Andrews is a bold move, could go either way that one.
The sad thing about it all is, we could have been up there with the Bournemouth's Brentfords of this world. Unfortunately we kept the small town attitude for too many years...sold our heart and sole at times, when with a tad more courage and nerve and ambition on the field could have compeated at the very top, with the talent thats gone through our doors those big crowds would have flocked back. Yes they say we had problems selling season tickets for the Premier league but the rot had already set in long before that, with local folk loosing interest and who couldn't care, too hoots about the club due to finding other interests outside of the game.
Am I missing something here ‘ problems selling season tickets for the Premier League’ thought we’d virtually sold out ?
