If I criticise America am I criticising Christianity? Am I Christianophobic?

You do know that Netanyahu encouraged Hamas in the past dont you? Again, if you're not sure, or you have gaps in your knowledge do some reading. There's nothing wrong with having a view but if its ill-informed its little better than ignorant, knee-jerk assumption. Read up on Zionism in the 19th century, the effects of WW1, the withdrawal of Britain in 1948. The UN partition plan. The nakba. The wars of 1948, 1967,and 1973. Educate yourself.

Literally tying yourself in knots with your attempts to excuse israel and denounce palestinians.

Even if everything was equal you are at best extremely biased, but the last election in palestine was 2006 amd the last election in israel was 2022.

But obviously we have to blame the government and not the people of israel but every single palestinian (many of whom weren't even born at the time of the last election, never mind being able to vote) is responsible.

    Great stuff.

I’m sure there are some Palestinians who want peace and oppose hostilities. They probably feel powerless to change their leadership or the course of constant violence pursued by them.

What I do know is that, in Israel, other religions, and people of all types, are allowed to live freely and inline with Western values. In Gaza and Palestine to be a Jew is to face constant attack and likely death - it’s a culture those here have no real appreciation of, no matter how kind and enlightened they would self-proclaim to be.

Just seen this Tony Benn speech on FB, won’t let me post but seems quite apt.

Hamas exists because of Israeli historical actions, it's the cry of a desperate people locked inside an open air prison camp for decades.

Netenyahu, until recently, funded Hamas because he needed to divide and rule them from the PLO on the West Bank. He didn't want a two-state solution and Hamas were the perfect excuse not to have one. And then every so often when Hamas got a little uppity, Israel would, as they called it, "cut the grass" in Gaza and bomb it.

Read the opinions of these thirteen people carefully. I think they know far more than you, me or anyone on this board will ever know.

It pisses me off as there are good people and despots on both sides but if I criticise Israel suddenly I'm antisemitic! How's that work even work?

I remember the days when musicians, pop stars and bands promoted peace, harmony and to end wars. They used their stage as a platform to pressurise politicians to create peace and end war.

all i see now is bands taking one side in a war, ignoring other wars, promoting violence … or abstaining from events owned by orgs associated with certain countries. Sneaking a few words on social media while not even taking to the stage.

maybe my memory is flawed here but i find todays society is a sad state at taking one side and not championing the topic of peace in general. There are always two sides to every story.

    Palestine? Where's that?

Though it's recognised as a state, its referred to as Gaza, Golan Heights and West Bank. It's certainly not a proper country and doesn't even have full UN status, and obviously, Israel is pushing hard to a one state solution given the US pivot under Trump.

The issues go back a long time and as pretty much always, start because of a taking of territory.

It’s less than a week since Israeli ‘settlers’ aided by the terrorist IDF attacked a Christian village in the West Bank, killing innocent people and destroying homes and livelihoods.

I really cannot see this as an excuse, doing evil because others are evil just makes more evil.

Absolute Giant of a man, hated by the likes of the Mail, Times, Telegraph and Express etc back in the day. A man with integrity and conviction prepared to give up his place in the Lords to fight for working people.

It was almost a country until most of it was given to the new state of Israel in the aftermath of WW2. We (the British) had a large say in what happened to Palestine because Britain was mandated to govern it before that time (after the collapse of the Otterman Empire after WW1), the Palestinians helped Britain in WW2 and we sold them down the river. It was a British stronghold during the war and was a launch point for a joint British and Free French assault on Syria after which Syria too was under our control. The objective of the Mandate was to prepare the territory for self government but that never happened until it became part of Israel.
