He’s exactly the type of signing we need to be making seen as we can’t spend big money on proven attackers , pace, power and potential to get better it seems on paper a good addition.
I hope we sign more than four and more importantly, we get rid of many more than that to get a balanced squad. As I said previously, I’ll judge us well into the season once we see what squad he’s put together. I’m not sure why you’ve tagged me given you said Sormaz hadn’t said names to you. Unless you’re now backtracking on that? Neither is it obvious why Sormaz is suddenly a genius after signing a couple of players. That is what he’s being paid a lot of money to do after all. His biggest task is getting rid of the deadwood. Some of which he signed and lauded.
I tagged u because u was negative to me. Its simple I met Mladen and he explained things to me. Previously I thought he was *****...but he gave me time. I will not excuse Previous windows. But he knows to deliver now...he was so down to earth
You were coming across as uber thirsty and multiple people called you out about it. It matters not if he’s down to earth. The simple reality is we won’t know how good this window is until October. There’s a lot to be critical about and personally, at a time we need to save money, it’s a largesse to have a separate sporting director for a club our size, especially one who has had such a shocking first two windows, thrown two coaches under the bus and who hid from the media only doing a highly controlled snippet with the clubs media. What I am curious about is has the recruitment process evolved to include the coach more. I’d hope so given how at arms length it’s been and how many times recently coaches have been given players that were of no use to them and incurred waste and loss as a result. I still have no desire to know in advance of rumours or possible signings. And as I’ve said many times, I’m more keen to see who we can offload to try and get a grip on costs to some degree.
If he's supposed to be good then I hope we don't spoil his talent. We've all seen what can happen when the wrong pressure is put on players from those "above".
To be fair, nobody had heard of Jan Molby before he signed for tarn. What I did notice from that highlights video is once a circle appears at Reyes' feet, good things happen.
I've seen him play twice in games I was at but I'm not going to comment on his ability just from those because I believe that in most cases judging someone on between 0 (as one poster has and written him off) and 6 games minimum (as two posters have and proclaimed him the second coming of Messi) is unfair both ways. Suffice it to welcome him and hope he does well. At best it strikes me as another 'punt' and, unfortunately combined with the other two incomings confirms the continued approach of 'cheap quantity' buying. Posters throughout this thread are spouting the line that we can't afford good players - this is simply wrong, our total budget as currently funded is easily top half if not nearer top six but too much of it is swallowed up by the mass accumulation of previous punts who are not good enough for that level. We have some very talented youngsters and surely the strategy we should be following is a smaller group of better quality experienced professionals supplemented by our youngsters, rather than a zillion lower league/reserve team punts.
But the elephant in the room is that our own youngsters are just not good enough.. from a academy the size and cost of ours it's scandalous. Our record over recent years has been terrible. Either to produce players for ourselves and/or to sell on.. The question that needs to be asked is why this is.?. Off the top of head I can think of a couple of possibilities.. The young lads themselves are just genuinely not good enough from day one that we sign em on.. So then the person's responsible for attracting and assessing talent aren't up to the job.. Or that the lads have the talent but through poor leadership and coaching lose it and get lost along the way.. But clearly there's a big problem somewhere. The one thing I took from biddy37s post was Mladen saying about the upcoming focus on the academy.. So the realisation must have dawned.. That the sheer fact we bring in other clubs youngsters and play them before our own.. that there's a massive problem somewhere. Everybody and their mother knows for us to compete at a decent level we need a productive and successful academy. It should be our little gold mine.. I've called for the academy to be closed on the grounds of value for money.. It's been more like a local sports college than a professional football club.. Kids come for a couple of years then leave. But it would be way better to get it working and producing as to should and must for a club our size to succeed
There is though. We’re already well underway into pre season training, we were told that we wanted to get business done early. Most people would agree that we are still probably short of a number of quality players to be anyway near the top six So far we have signed another goalkeeper on loan for the third year running, a left back on loan from a divisional rival (he can’t be that good if Plym say we can have him) and a forward who has scored six senior goals. I wouldn’t say that any of those three are an upgrade on what we have had last season.
You keep referencing the lads goalscoring record of 6 goals, which actually came from 20 games as a LWB, what are you struggling to grasp that he was asked to play 20 games in an unnatural position. Regarding the Goalkeeping situation Flavell signed a new deal and will become the number 1 keeper but just needs more bedding in time gently, so it wouldn't make any sense financially to pay another keeper 2/3 years wages when clearly the club rate Flavell. Murphy had a great season last year at Stevenage and has just signed a new deal at QPR so clearly we'll thought of. Yes we were slow to start, I've no idea why and I'm just guessing bit would think some targets decided on different options and chose deals at other clubs, we can't put a gun to their heads. Looking at the size of the squad and the financial losses i think you are going to be disappointed if you think we will be bringing in top 6 quality players this season, we need to get rid of players that won't be in conors plans, then they'll be potentially players leaving for fees to bridge some of the loses. I see this season as very much the start of a rebuild under CH, it can't, due to finances, see a full squad overhaul in 1 transfer window. I don't see us anywhere near the bottom, they'll be players conor will improve with good coaching, we'll be far fitter than last year and the youngsters will get better with more game time. Steady season, new playing style and an improvement on last season, be around 9th
Totally different. David was in the England youth setup and highly rated nationally. This lad was fifth choice not long since.
But we are we Judging someone's goal tally when he played as a LWB, its a complete non starter of a fair stat. It's just being used as a yardstick to beat him with because some folk can't accept we've signed a young lad with massive potential, their expectation levels are we should be signing top end league one players with goal stats galore. Proven players with high goal stats cost alot of money, that's why we bring in talent to develop. On this day in 2009 we signed a young kid on loan who'd scored 2 goals in 60 games and folk moaned then with the same ***t Happy Adam Hammill day
