Personally I wouldn't know where to begin as there's more gone by than I can remember but one I do recall vividly for his all action blood, sweat and tears approach is Neil Redfearn.
Sorry Luca, you are not on my list, even if I had one.

Good shout, but it’s hard to look much further than Winny. Captain at 19.

I don't think so. For much of his time at Oakwell, I think it would have been Phil Chambers, Steve Agnew or Stuart Gray.

Our current gaffer the first and probably only Barnsley captain to lift two trophies at Wembley in the same season

Eric Winstanly was great captain as was his predecessor Duncan Sharpe. The only bloke I ever saw who could head a ball further than he could kick it. His defending philosophy was 'they shall not pass'.

All the usual suspects mentioned already.

Honoury mention for Paul Reid. Captained us to promotion a team on paper that didn't look as good as others, but played as a team. I will also never forget his goal in front of 4,000 for us at Huddersfield in the play offs. Limbs everywhere.

Mick Mccarthy was a great leader.

Was Gary Fleming a skipper during his time here?

Hovering around the second tier playoffs up until his injury and other shenanigans January 2012.

Captained us to automatic promotion in an undefeated Oakwell campaign gaining 91 points was it?

Don't know. Started as right back. But excelled as sweeper. A big favourite of the fans.

Another vote for Duncan Sharp. If the ball got past him, the man didn't.
    "Gerrim in't wall bottom Dunc!"

I remember a newspaper report when we'd beaten Darlington (I think it was), when Winnie scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. The report began, "Eric Winstanley, the man they call Mr. Barnsley....". Winnie was a very talented player and a great leader.
